j0ekerr: It's a wonderful Sunday, the sun is shining, birds are chirping, the sun is shining, bugs are flying everywhere, including my mouth, the sun is shining even more.
Tooth bugs? So, then you are a crocodile? :)

I don't mean to be depressing, but I have a thought.
Can the humanity please go back to making something special?
Movies, Video Games, Books, Theatre, Science.
I feel like we all just hit a period when we just make something for the sake of earning money/showing-off or just plain stupidity.
The last time I remember seeing a lot of intersting things was in 2010 and the last video game I played was DX:HR in 2012.
So yeah, everything is so "dry" and soulless.

Do you remember 90s and 00s?
BOOM! Planescape Torment
BOOM! Baldur's Gate
BOOM! Baldur's Gate 2
BOOM! Deus Ex
BOOM! DOOM
BOOM! Quake
BOOM! Half-Life
BOOM! Half-life 2
BOOM! VTMB
BOOM! Chrono Trigger
BOOM! Spider-man on PS1
BOOM! Mortal Kombat Trilogy
BOOM! Ultima 7
BOOM! Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 3
BOOM! Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Outcast
BOOM! Star Wars Jedi Academy
BOOM! Star Wars Battlefront
BOOM! Star Wars Battlefront 2
BOOM! LEGO Star Wars
BOOM! Hercules on PS1
BOOM! Tarzan on PS1
BOOM! Heavy Rain
BOOM! Farhenheit

And what about the last 4-5 years? Well yeah, DX:HR was pretty good, but again, was very "artificial". You copuld tell that they are jsut trying to check the checkmarks. The only other example is Gone Home (TRY IT)
And now all these Battlefields, Call of Duties, Pre-orders, microtransactions, silly dlc, total hatred, DRM.
And idie games are not better: "Oh, we made a tribute to 8bit games and NES era. Look at our pixel graphics. Too bad we lack any other talents to make an interesting game".

And movies and Books are no better. All those products orientied on teenage girls are driving me crazy. Twilight, Hunger Games, City of bones (or whatever it was called), 50 Shades. All those Avengers are hitting wild box-office, but there is nothing deep about these movies. It's just mindless action and cool shots. Yeah, Wow, really showing how deep and clever an Anita Sarkeesian friend can be, Joss.
But let's not talk about that.
The last really gripping and breathtaking movie that I've seen was Gone Girl in october of 2014. That movie had everything: good acting, provocking dialogue, deep meaning, you name it!

And science... I know that breakthroughs don't happen in a day, but recently I became very mad at our doctors and rocket engineers and goverments.
First of all, a disclosure: I have been taking really strong medication for the past 3 years and recently i found that the meds that I'm taking can give you diabetes. So yeah, pills that were supposed to help me, gave me diabetes. No joke.
And here we are, 2015. Yet we still don't know the causes of cancer or hair loss, we can't treat them and we can't treat diabetes.
So now I am forced to carry a bottle of water everywhere I go.

Sorry guys for the dirty post. I just reached the boiling point.

FearfulSymmetry: I'm currently doing some work on my thesis, but hopefully there will be time for fun tonight. I'm rewatching the complete X-Files series, I'm halfway through season 8 right now. I haven't been playing a lot of games unfortunately because I don't have much time to really get into them. :) What about you?

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do well. :)
Watching Dr Who right now.
Good afternoon, Ye Good olde Gamers!

Sometimes you come across a piece of music, and it sticks so good that you just have to listen to it over and over again because you feel you'll go mad if it's not playing continuesly.

I first had it with allegro con fuoco from Dvorak, and now, 6 years later after a few others I've come across this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtPAiBxUAA8

And I find it so intriguing, mesmerizing, hypnotical even o_O. Bewitched by Schnittke?

And aside from that I have a new tale of RPG woes from the D&D session yesterday.

The "munchkin" player was boss in a small town, and he insists on bringing his "bodyguard" (half the village) with him on every occasion.

He then proceeded to explain they had spears and thus were unbeatable (inspired by this no doubt) -_- . He was giving me queers stares, and proclaimed that there was no way in heaven or hell a pack of goblins could possibly do any harm to his spearmen, simply because they could in no way ever get past those spear points. After furious debate (which I really suck at), he was content if I gave his men an opportunity attack against each goblin as it moved inside the "reach" of the spears.

Earlier on, a bugbear (the encounter boss) rolled a crit on a stealth test. It popped out of nowhere and started butchering the munchkin player's (who is my best friend, dimidium animae meae) men from the rear. More furious arguing from him, this was unheard of and unnacceptable, a lvl 5 bugbear against level 1 players. I pointed out that he had 30 men with him, which shut him up for the moment.

They finished the bugbear of stylishly with a daily from my brother who plays a shifter swordmage, and then the munckin player insisted on stopping the session and having a hearthy chat about "combat realism"...It was a looong evening :(
Good Morning to all!
Remember to give your mom a hug and kiss!

I know what you mean to say :(

I don't like to brand myself as a dissident, but as far as I can see our modern western society is geared towards churning out sheep who don't question anything and are just content to eat what's in front of them and crap it out behind them.

I realise Cicero was in his day and age already moaning about Oh tempora Oh mores, and I don't mean to sound like the angry grannies I was forced to share a ride on the bus with last week, but people are real gobshites.

the need for instant satisfaction, consumption, often forced through wanting to have more and better than the others, everyone is a star syndromes and a filthy economical system makes this very much a crisis point for humanity.

I myself am of the opinion that a decent bolshevik revolution would sort things out (at least for society), but there are so many other issues at hand (mainly ecological)

And yes, modern "art", video games and novels are plain bad, I share that point of view. Art is plain not art (recall that time when they had Chimps paint a picture which they offered to some unknowing art critics; they loved it and deemed it very satisfactory)

Video games we know of, and Novels, well...I'm currently reading Patrick 'O Brian's Aubrey and Maturin serries again (higlhy recommended), but I've heard my brother talking about a review his literature professor gave about 50 shades of grey. I didn't get high marks, that much I can say.

I might be fond of overly weird music, but today's avant garde is rather meh. It all sounds like mud to me. And popular music I never liked.

Oh yeah that's true. I've to read'em further (pausing after Book 4 or 5 at time).
But before I read on, I've to finish reading the "Dune" books, then there are a couple graphic novels and unwatched movies waiting to be read and watched, and in the meantime (if there's any left.....) I've to play through the gog-backlog.
And sometimes it's the other way around. :)
