ddickinson: I guess so. It just seems that every year things get worse for gamers, especially with the amount of things gamers are expected to pay for just to get a full and enjoyable game.

Did I read somewhere that they were finally ending the COD series, or will they just keep pumping them out forever, with very little innovation or effort, like all the annual sports games?
Yeah. Saw a pretty good picture illustrating that a few days ago...

Haven't read that yet - but i would guess Activision intends to milk that cash cow until it dies...

moonshineshadow: Nope, have not read the books. But my mum got them as audiobooks recently, I need to ask her what she thinks about them.
Read them. I only read the two short story collections so far (The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny) but they are really good :).

EndreWhiteMane: I am now the proud owner of the Alpha version of the GOG Galaxy Client.
<yawn>
Carry on.
Me too. I can tell that you're as thrilled and elated as I am. =)

ddickinson: Good evening, everyone!

I hope you are all doing well?

Okay, that has got to be the weirdest post I have seen on this thread for quite some time. :-)
After the md debacle blew up,there was really thismod there. HD horse genitals mod for $100.

Good eveing Crow.

A welcome for you too to the Galaxy alpha owmers :).

moonshineshadow: You are right. Preordering is often a mess. And while I think it is ok to give the people preordering something for their support, I think this is only ok, if everyone else can also get it after release. Exclusive things are a big no go in my opinion.
As you can see with the games I preordered, the only company I trust to do it right is Piranha Bytes. Up until now they have not let me down :D
It seems silly to not let the customers buy the pre-order exclusives after release for a fee. It would stop some the complaining, and surly it would make the company more money. I think all the pre-order exclusives have lead to a lot of cutting bits out of games and using it as a selling point, or just making it DLC and charge the customer even more. It is a shame that a lot of the bigger games make it so costly to own the full game, cutting some of it up into pre-order exclusives and DLCs.

I just feel pre-order for digital things is a little strange. I understood it in the old days with physical and limited supply products, but it's not like a digital game will sell out, so why not wait until reviews are out and then give them your money, rather than blindly just throwing money at developers and publishers, especially those with bad reputations already?

Tom was quite persistent about me getting the book. I have not had time to read it yet, but I have heard many people speak highly of them.

EndreWhiteMane: It already does a lot of things, I just meant it works like a glorified browser, just like Steam and all the other clients do.

OK, enough of that, back on Firefox. :-)
I have never used a client before, so I have nothing really to compare it to. Do you think you will be switching to the client when it is finished, or will you stay with Firefox?

Yep, that picture is a good summary of how gaming has progressed. Just think how bad it will be in a few years time. I read somewhere about a car game that wanted to have micro-transactions for petrol. Meaning you would have to keep paying real money for in-game petrol if you want to keep driving the car. And I bet they will still want their £60 price for the game initially as well.

And the sad thing is, I bet someone bought the bloody thing. :-)

Anyway, how are you? Have you had a nice day?

I heard something like that about a Need for Speed Game from EA but i thought that it were a F2P...uhm..P2W game...

Yep, that is true. Now that we are talking about it, I realise I never preordered digital editions. Risen games were boxed Collectors Editions :D

That reminds me, did you find the first Raven book? I guess if yes you probably did not have time to read it yet since you are so busy.

Maybe that was what I was thinking of. But would you put it past them to still charge full price and yet have all the micro-transactions? A bit like the Evolve game which charged full price and was really just a DLC hub.

Yeah same like Mortal Kombat X. Or Assassins Creed Unity which also had micro-transactions in it despite being an utterly broken game. I get the point of micro-transactions in F2P-games as long as they're reasonable but having them in full priced games is not acceptable...

ddickinson: Glad to hear you are not doing too bad, and that you got some nice gaming time today.

I am good, thank you. Quite tired, but that's due to me working another long day.

How is work for you, do you have lots of things lined up?
Not surprised your tired the amount you work. Not long till Sunday and your day off at least :)

Work is fine, we've got two great regular pitches now so I'm not worried anymore. We've got a few bigger events lined up for the summer too, but the regular stuff pays us a decent wage and is fun and easy so we're mostly planning to stick to that, maybe pick up a third pitch towards the end of the year.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Speak to you all tomorrow :)

Good evening. =)

I've had it for a bit, but since I download everything as I buy it, I just couldn't get myself all excited at the prospect of downloading it all again.
Not going to condemn it outright since it's an alpha, it could be a useful item in the long run for keeping things up to date rather than manual patches coming out of my ears sometimes.

How are the Risen games? I have heard a few people talk very poorly about them.

I did find the first Raven book, and I started to read it, but then unfortunately my work increased and I have just not had the time to really enjoy it, so I decided to leave it for now until my work is not as bad and I have more free time. I enjoyed what I read so far, and I am looking forward to getting back to the book in a few weeks when hopefully my hours will get back to normal.

As far as I understood it, the galaxy client downloads them in some kind of pre-installed state. So installers need more space and can only be installed with the client. For the standalone installers we will need to download them directly from the website like we are doing now.
So if we wan't automated updates there will be no standalone installers. And my impression was that they are not going to change this concept.
