ddickinson: I understand the appeal for people, and although I have issues with Steam, I have no problem with people using Steam. I just kinda wish that people had voted with their wallets when all the bad practices started, and not just keep throwing money at publishers and companies that are just getting worse and just turning gaming into a money harvesting machine. Even AAA developers now hardly put any real effort into their games, as they know people will still keep pre-ordering (I also never understand the logic of pre-ordering a digital game) and giving them money.
Yeah. Voting with the wallets is probably more effective than a boycott i guess....
But the problem is - as in many cases - the silent majority which will preprder games for those shiny pre-order exclusives and want to have their yearly iteration of CoD etc...

ddickinson: Perhaps that is how they are going to get us all, just send us an email tempting us to try it. Then once you try it, you are theirs forever. :-)

Are you able to try multiplayer freely with the alpha, or is it just the launcher and game management aspects for now with the occasional multiplayer event?

moonshineshadow: Yep it will have German audio and text. My mum liked the second one, so I think she'll enjoy the third one :-)

My plans for the weekend are nothing special. Usual cleaning and then reading and playing Witcher 2, now that I managed to decide on a game to play :D

ddickinson: I am glad to hear you finally picked a game to play. What made you decide on Witcher 2?
You have to own one of the Galaxy enabled games, which I do. Multiplayer is not my thing though.
I just used it to install Anodyne and play it, worked well.
I'm also using it right now for this post.

I was going over my game list again and when I reached Witcher 2 I asked myself if I would ever be motivated to play Witcher 1 for a third time or if I should just get over the lost saves if I ever wanted to play the second one.
I did not feel not motivation at all so it was either never playing the second one or just doing it. So I told myself it would be a waste of money and installed it and started it :D

I can understand that, but it just seems to get abused so much these days. It's like kickstarter and things like that, once the developers and publishers have your money, they are under no real obligation to even finish the game, which is why so many are broken and buggy. And offering pre-order exclusives just feels underhanded, and a cheap attempt to lure you in and get your money early, before you have the chance to see what a broken mess the game actually is. But for companies you can trust, I can understand pre-ordering.

You are right. Preordering is often a mess. And while I think it is ok to give the people preordering something for their support, I think this is only ok, if everyone else can also get it after release. Exclusive things are a big no go in my opinion.
As you can see with the games I preordered, the only company I trust to do it right is Piranha Bytes. Up until now they have not let me down :D

HOWEVER, I see no way to refresh the page. :-( Pretty useless without that.

I guess so. It just seems that every year things get worse for gamers, especially with the amount of things gamers are expected to pay for just to get a full and enjoyable game.

Did I read somewhere that they were finally ending the COD series, or will they just keep pumping them out forever, with very little innovation or effort, like all the annual sports games?

Well at least you picked one now. And it is a nice long game as well, so hopefully it will keep you entertained for a long time. Have you read the Witcher books? ToxicTom speaks very highly of them.

I am curious to see how this will all turn out once it is finished. At the moment I see no real reason why I would need it.

Nope, have not read the books. But my mum got them as audiobooks recently, I need to ask her what she thinks about them.

It already does a lot of things, I just meant it works like a glorified browser, just like Steam and all the other clients do.
