I would say :
- Nice : the general atmosphere is not bad ; graphics are good (for those who love the old-school pixellized style) ; voices and music too, they suit well ; historic real facts and characters (I was surprised to know that so many actually existed !)
- Could be better : linear and painful-to-start storyline ; not really engaging characters (they all seem to have an average and rather undifferentiated personality/way to move and talk...) ; riddles -far- too easy to me (the inventory is always empty ; so, as soon as you find something that you can pick up, it's easy to tell how and where to use it, because you know you need it at the moment...)
In a word, I liked it... but I won't recommand it as a "must have"...

FearfulSymmetry: I own A Golden Wake, but I haven't played past the opening sequence. I really enjoy Wadjet Eye's games, but this one just didn't draw me in somehow. I still plan on playing it all the way through, but at a later date.

I loved the Blackwell series so much that I think I really put too high hopes on that one... :-\ Well. At least I still have some more to play ; Resonance, Gemini Rue...

Sorry to hear your Owlet is not resting well. Is it due to her teething?

I was never keen on A Golden Wake, the storyline just was not that appealing to me. I own most of the other pixel style adventure games, but A Golden Wake was just not my cup of tea.

I hope your day continues to be restful and peaceful. I am outside for much of the day, as I procrastinated a little too much yesterday, but that was due to it being my first day back from my weekend away.

AgentBirdnest: Pretty much exactly what you think...
Good - The graphics, music, and voices are really nice. I really liked the setting and the atmosphere. Like you, I was really surprised that so many people really existed (though not nearly as surprised as I was with the real people in Blackwell.)
Not as good - The story seemed non-existent in the first half, and although it got more interesting, it still didn't capture my interest too much... The characters were quite bland, with one or two exceptions (I can only remember a couple of names)... Too-easy puzzles... and I didn't like the ending :-|

Still... I had fun. I can't think of anything that was just plain "bad"... I enjoyed playing it, but I doubt I'll play it again. I'd say... Forgettable, but not regrettable :-)
I agree with everything you said, too... I like your last line : "Forgettable, but not regrettable" :-) ... you should use it as a title is you write a review...

Yep, the Blackwell series is awesome. I really liked Resonance as well. I own Gemini Rue on Humble, but I've only played halfway through that one. Somehow I keep forgetting to get back to it. Primordia is really good as well, if you don't have that yet.

Good to hear. :) And sounds like you've got a good plan for those games. :)

Thanks! The final version has to be handed in by June 3rd, I think, but I'd like to finish writing before I leave for England on the 17th of May. I can do some last editing work when I return, but ideally I want to at least have everything written out before then.

I hope your Owlet will feel better soon. Hopefully when she is older and understands things a bit better she can just have lots of fun with her mummy.

I definitely do have lots of good games in my backlog to play. Far too many. And after I get a few more games, my collection will be virtually complete, and I will have no need to keep adding to my already large backlog. :-)

Yes! I'll be sitting on my porch waiting for Owl's hot chocolate that she promised me :-D

Later I plan to watch a DVD my brother gave me for my birthday. One of my favourite TV shows, "Southland" :-)
It always cheers me up to watch a DVD when I'm sick.
