BillyMaysFan59: I'm thinking about leaving Steam after the shit they pulled, which is explained here:

IanM: I don't like what they've done here but there may be positives. Rather than immediately quit for good I'd be inclined to see how this settles in the longer term and just hold off buying any new Steam games until there is a better sense of how the market will balance out. I make this comment with some bias: I don't use Steam much so I'm not as upset as other people, especially the Skyrim players.

For anyone that hasn't seen it, Total Biscuit / Cynical Brit's take on the issue is fairly balanced:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGKOiQGeO-k
Although it doesn't affect me as I usually don't use mods at all I understand why people are upset. Modding has always been kind of a subculture inside the gaming space. And traditionally subcultures define themselves by being DIY and 'not for profit'.
Valve's move is supposed to destroy this self-concept and to draw the subculture into capitalism. I've seen this more than once in music or other subcultures and they all have been heavily altered by the capitalist impact. This may be the beginning of the end of the modding community we know and their transformation into a new business segment. Understandable that people are unhappy, but that's the way capitalism works :(
This doesn't make Valve a new Satan - but it reminds me of the way amazon works with self-publishers. Just with a lot more copyright issues. Considering the way Valve usually behaves - I hope nobody considers it offensive when I call it autistic, because I think that describes it correctly - the mod-publishers won't have much fun as they will not be able to oversee all copyright related issues and I think they will have to bleed for that. Hail DMCA!!! :(

Btw, as I was bored I took the chance to start my I-have-a-new-job-giveaway! You're all invited :D

Well i knew about your recommendations but i'm still not sure about Banner Saga....:)

And concerning Steam: I meant it in a similar way you said it. I don't intend to quit Steam forever but for the moment i banished it from my PC and my laptop ( i haven't played much on Steam recently anyway)...

Welcome back *hugs*

Well, to some extent I have to defend staying on steam for not feeling to shabby when I give away steam-keys in my giveaway. Thx for the SpecOps-key, btw :D

I already did this earlier by kicking steam from my system (atleast for the moment). I don't think that'll be permanent but the moment it's banished :).
