EndreWhiteMane: I have a volunteer job. Saturday is the only day I have to work, the other days are optional unless one of the bosses is out, then I fill in for them.

Do they try firebreaks or anything or just let them burn themselves out?
avatar
gunsynd: Yes,they try all that stuff. These fires are too big so they adopt the system off (watch and wait)

That's scary, it would be the equivalent of our west coast forest fires. Yuck. :/
Edit: That's exactly like our forest fires, you just call them differently.

I enjoy it, we help get clothes and food to people who need them. I love the place.

Good morning/afternoon whatever time it is where you guys are.

After testing a few games, and particularly one that I was generously gifted with much pain in mind, I have come to the definitive conclusion... that my rig is seriously underpowered.

Seriously, I can never get more than forty-lows fps in the starting area of Dark Souls and that's with a 1280x720 resolution.

Nothing new here, I already knew that. But I chose to ignore it, this time I had to know, and it's a bit galling.

I think it's time for an upgrade. So I would inquire of you, what are some good but not overly expensive graphic cards out there? Something better than the AMD Radeon HD 6570 I have right now.

This is a great resource for answering that question.

It most certainly is, thank you very much.

Edit: The R7 looks nice, not excessively expensive and scores 4 times higher than my current card in 3DMark

Further Edit: Oh crap, I need to check if I have the 6 pin power connector. But I think I don't.

Good information there, thank you for sharing it. Still need a good video card for these thing and that should help.
Why hello there.

FRAPS indicated 15 frames at 1080p res.

And that is terrible.

Good evening. =)
One bit of....good....news for you - even with integrated graphics only, Soulstorm runs like a dream on this computer.
A dream where you're endlessly drowning in a sentient hope annihilating void and you can feel that said void is actively deriving pleasure from your increasing urge to passionately make out with the nearest light socket until the pain stops, but a dream nonetheless.

Additional - will mention this just in case. Soulstorm's windowed mode is a pile of broken ass and infuriating ineptitude, so unless you've got better luck than I, don't try to actually switch to different things while using it.
The game will completely lock up and crash you to desktop if you do.

I've been using Tom's Hardware for a long time. Good 'real world' recommendations, not fanboy gotta have it stuff. ;)

Great link. My graphic cards has some trouble so I'll need to buy a new one in the near future and this is really helpful.

You really need to start doing your videos, you have a gift for prose. "passionately make out with the nearest light socket" is pretty much an instant calssic. :-)

I have a local copy of the 'hierarchy chart', very nice for deciding if a game will run on my rig.

Welp, I used to play Dark Crusade on the poor GMA laptop.

It ran very smoothly.

I need to download it, then I can play a few campaigns and then we can battle each other.

Have I mentioned how I suck against real opponents in RTS?

Will probably do a test run soon, just to see if my crappy internet can even do a stream that's watchable.
Appreciate the compliment regardless, though. Thank you. =)

Well, I've got zero experience against real opponents in any RTS, so that will probably help level the playing field somewhat.

While not ideal, there is an adapter (my last graphics card actually came with one) that will convert more traditional PSU connectors to the 6 pin version required by newer cards.

Agreed. I'm not even a link clicker, but when I search a computer question and see a Tom's Hardware forum response, I have no problem going to it as the advice is always good and the site is solid. Gives you everything from the high end techie stuff to the "need to know" general user information. And in a sea of hardware, a ton of useful information to help you sort through and get what you need.
