toxicTom: Marathon is a very classic, but rather unknown shooter from the 2.5D era. It used environments like Doom (textured levels, sprite enemies) but was quite ahead of it's time by incorporating a meaningful story told in-game. It came out in 1994, just one year after Doom. It's an early work of Bungie, of Halo-fame. The reason it's rather unknown is that it was for years only available for Mac, and when a PC arrived - time had moved on. It's still a great game, a real classic, and it's also freely available. So if you like the classic shooters, it's definitely worth to give it a try.
I might decide to give it a try someday. I will make a note of it and look into it another day. I saw earlier that you were talking about the FEAR expansions, and I think at least one of them, if not both, were created by a different studio. Hence the different feel to the game. I did not find FEAR scary like some do, but it was a very good FPS, with some good AI, and an interesting story.
