j0ekerr: I say that because if it has enough horsepower you could try to set up a virtual XP machine.
Actually I have a real life XP on this machine... But haven't started it in years and it would probably spend a few hours installing updates until I'm ready to go...

Machine:
AMD Phenom X4 3.4GHz (quite the thing when I bought it, low end nowadays)
16 GB RAM (DDR3)
Geforce GTX 970 (new, since my ATI 5770 was about to die).

Whoa. That 's a lot of work to simply get the game to run ;). Good to know as i just got the Gothic games in the promo (I actually never have played the games before).

I absolutely understand your reasons concerning Witcher 2. It's a mature game after all. Which reminds me to play the Witcher games again :).

CarrionCrow: Totally understandable. There are plenty of games, but that high priority list is much, much smaller.
Yeah. So much unplayed games from GOG *sigh* ;)

Interesting. I also have a Phenom X4 (965 i think) and I'm still running a 5770 on my machine but i fear my motherboard might die in the foreseeable future.

CarrionCrow: That doesn't sound strange. You're looking out for your kids, rather than setting them down in front of M-rated titles and letting them have at it unsupervised.
Well I know there are enough people that would frown upon me letting my kids watch playing the likes of Skyrim. They even know the intro including the beheading.

On the other hand, playing themselves happens very rarely (yet...). The little one had some fun trying Race the Sun, although she still lacks coordination to get very far. The older one is very eager to play The Incredible Machine - which I utterly would support if it wasn't so difficult to get her quit playing and an hour or so (which I think is really enough for a 7yo).

But there is still a big difference between Skyrim and The Witcher 2 in terms of maturity...
and aside from the beheading (and some finisher) there are not that much "problematic" scenes in it.

In the end, that's your choice. They're your children, you can choose what goes and what doesn't.
You're analyzing, deciding what's acceptable. That's a far better thing than parents sitting their children down with a copy of GTA 5 and caring about nothing more than having a video game to use as a babysitter.

That might just be powerful enough to run games up to 2004. The video card doesn't really factor in, since a virtual machine lives and dies exclusively on the CPU. Unless it's using extremely optimized virtualization software.

I think I was about 7 when I discovered my dad's (not very well) hidden playboys. And I came out allright.
Now excuse me while I watch some tentacle gore hentai.

Be sure to get the In Extremo mod.

Wait. They were in the game?
Good evening, everyone!

I hope you have all had a nice weekend?

moonshineshadow: Doing good :-) How is your weekend?
GOTT IM HIMMEL! (I have had that saying stuck in my head since playing Outlast.)

Am I reading that right? Did Moon actually say good instead of okay?

*rubs eyes in disbelief*

She did! She actually said good! YAY! *Jumps up and down in excitement*

I will have to keep this screenshot here for prosperity, and in the hope that there will be many more "goods" to come. :-)

*Gives Moonshine an extra special, super mega happy hug*

Now I am off to tell Owl...

Arrr ahoy DD.

She sure did. And now you can hold it over her head FOR EVER!.

What is that magnifying glass? I went looking in windows accessories, but the one that's bundled is nowhere near as fancy.

Good evening. I'm really good - still having a relaxing weekend :)
How are you doing?

SPOILER (the Outlast thing ^^) and it should be GOTT IM HIMMEL :P
But it's really great that it's better than 'ok' :D
I see the forum is acting up again tonight. Having a lot of problems even replying to posts. :-(

Hello, little blob! *big hug*

My weekend was very good, thank you.

How was your weekend, did you find anything fun to do?

Hello!

The magnifying glass is an image I put on top of the screenshot. I was a bit bored so did a bit of image editing to highlight her epic post.

How are you today, did you have a good weekend?
Evening everyone.
I think I'll just stick with 'doing OK here'.
Don't want to give anyone a stroke. ;)

And, it's finally raining. A lot! :-)

Good evening!

Glad to hear you have had a relaxing weekend!

I am doing great, thank you. Only complaint is the forum acting up, but that seems to happen this time of day recently.

I will change the spelling now. I think it was originally IM, I think I just put IN out of habit. (But thank you for letting me know.)
