5 Bard Dwarves again?

I've told you that will never work but you don't listen.

got sort of a mixture (paladin, mage, druid, ranger, fighter/thief)

Maybe I'm just not playing it right? I dunno

That's almost the lineup I use but I replace the ranger with a tank (dwarf with an axe or something, pure power) and just leave all my ranged attacks to the magicians and my thief.

I tend to go with fighter or paladin, cleric, druid, mage, thief and whatever else I feel like (never bard).

When it's an option, I go with a mage/sorcerer combo. More firepower, but some flexibility to it. Frees up 1st level slots on the wizard when the sorcerer has identify, the wizard can load up on magic missiles to interrupt enemy spellcasting.
Once they both hit 3rd-level spells, it's pretty much fireball barbecue with hasted melee skewering as a chaser.

Sure, that's true. And interrupting is a much needed thing in AD&D games I think, when the dark forces start using nastier spells. Haven't got much experience with sorcerers, maybe worth a try...

They're useful. Less of a selection, you can't switch out their spells as they gain levels, but what they do have, they can cast more often.
I always turn them into massive damage dealers, load them up with every serious blaster spell I can along with basic protection like shield, mirror image, stoneskin.
The wizard covers the wider range of spells, fills gaps the sorcerer can't, it all evens out and you end up with a lot more spells before you have to rest.
