I am glad to hear you are enjoying the game. It is probably not one I would ever get (I have yet to even play Baldur's Gate yet), but it is nice to hear that it lives up to some of its hype so far. Hopefully you will not run into anything in the game that will change your opinion, hopefully you will have fun from start to finish.

My advice (apologies if I've mentioned this before) - Icewind Dale, then Baldur's Gate, then (when you're in the mood for a serious story with a lot of reading) Planescape. =)

Thank you, I'm hopeful as well. After this one, if Endre's impressions of Original Sin continue to be good, that'll be the next.

Do you know if the Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition is good?
I am thinking about giving these kind of games another chance. It was more than a decade ago that I played one, and since tastes change perhaps I would actually enjoy them now.

ddickinson: I was going through some boxes in the attic a little earlier and I found my old PS2 and my GameCube, complete with some lovely games that bring back so many wonderful memories.

Not because of the memories - I don't have them since I never owned a console, sadly. But because i.e. the PS2 had a few games I read a lot about and always would have liked to play. Say, for instance, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Or Killer 7... or or or...

The last time I checked, they were still working on getting bugs out.
My thought would be to give the original Icewind 1 a shot, especially since what GOG carries has both expansions and the adventurer's pack of extra items for sale added already.
It's a ten dollar investment retail rather than twenty, and it'll be a lot more stable.

What was it overall that you disliked about them the first time?

If you can afford it at some point, you can get the re-releases of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus in a double pack for the PS 3. Think it's less than 20 dollars for that set.

I don't know about IWD, but the biggest gripe with the BG:EE's for many people are that they are buggy and that they don't support gameplay enhancing mods and fixes available for the original games. Although if they fixed the horrible pathfinding from old IWD (inherited from BG1, which is a reason to play that latter with the BG2 engine) that alone would be a reason to prefer the EE over the original.

You have a spare PS3 then, one moment, I'll send my address by PM...

What I disliked? The isometric view, no way to zoom, the huge party and needing to manage it. It just felt like a drag.

But I always hear so much good things about them and perhaps I would like them now after such a long time.

LOL, I actually believe it :-)

You did mention them before, and made a good argument in their favour. But I was gifted the Baldur's Gate games, and as I am not sure if the genre is one I would fully enjoy, I would like to try those games out first before I try any other similar game. But I have to be in the right frame of mind for some games, and so far the mood has not been right for me to play them. Hopefully that will change as things settle down a little.

There were many fun games I have and remember on the PS2 and the original Play Station. The Game Cube I only really have the Resident Evil games and a few others, my main console was the PS2. I did not have any consoles after those two, the newer generations of console games never really appealed to me that much, plus real life had consumed much of my free time anyway.

Well, the view and inability to zoom are still there, unless there are mods to change those things.
No clue on that, I always play the series vanilla.
The party management is also the same, unless you build a party with less characters, which spikes the difficulty.

Given your issues with those things, I'd definitely try the original before spending more money on a game that'll still have things you disliked before.

Totally understandable. The first one I ever played was Baldur's Gate 1. It was a folder full of CD's and a very large manual. I knew it would take up a very large chunk of time once I dove into it. Ended up with it sitting on my shelf for maybe six months before I was finally in the mood to get into it fully.
