I want to install the oft overlooked and great yet miserably recieved 4x game Armada 2526 (gold) on my pc (windows 7).

now, whatever I do, the game before even starting to install tells me: "the game cannot be installed...without .NET framework 3.5 or newer". Oddly, the only .NET framework version on the pc is 4.5.1 . Installing .NET 3.5 itself from the exe included on the game disc doesn't do anything to solve the issue.

Repairing .NET 4.5.1 doesn't do anything either, because it says it can't. "another installation is already in progress"

I'm moving to linux in the very near future, but this is really odd, not to mention typical, not to mention bloody annoying.

ElTerprise: Congrats. So the basically useless part is over ;).

FearfulSymmetry: Yep. :P

ElTerprise: Good to know...:). How much time do you have for the thesis?

FearfulSymmetry: Until the end of May, but I'll be abroad for a week starting 17 May, so it would be nice to have the majority of it finished before then. So that gives me about ... a month. :P

ElTerprise: Maybe this tool might help. I had.Net Framework ssues installing Office 2010 on my reinstalled Windows and it helped me... but no guarantee...

Vnlr: well, I ran the cleanup tool. So all my .NET framework stuff is gone.
Now it still can't install a new version because "another installation is in progress". So I'm stuck without .NET pffff... ;)

I'm not blaming you or anything however, I'll pop open the task manager and see what's going on there.

Vnlr: not to worry, it's working (the installation) ;p

There was a ton of .NET related exes running in the background, after killing all of them the installer works again.

Then we shall have to see about the game, I guess I had better do a reboot once the above is done.

Something funny has happened to me today.

Me and a friend were going to a con this afternoon, I had even prepared a costume of sorts. We were having lunch prior to setting off and getting on the road to drive there, when my friend's girlfriend, who had gone off ahead on her own, phoned him to tell him that they were no longer selling tickets and attendance was full, and thus they were not letting anyone in anymore. Which unfortunately included her.

The other unfortunate consequence of this is that I won't be able to parade in my jammies, bathrobe, towel and an electronic book.
