Okay, I've got to ask - is the Emperor ever going to actually be up and around again?

From the tiny bit of lore I know, he's just alive enough to be a navigational beacon, and he has to devour psykers to even be able to do that much.

Who knows with how Games Workshop has ruined so many things. I think originally the legend was that he would arise during a great time of need and rally the Imperium to final victory. A date which would never come, of course, as in the future there is only war. But with what they are doing to destroy the lore, I wouldn't put it past them to bring him back in some anti-climax fashion.

In reality he is bound to the Golden Throne, for without his vigilance the Warp would overrun the real world and Chaos would consume the galaxy. His sacrifice in the lore was to contain Chaos and to ensure the Imperium could navigate the stars via travel through he Warp and continue their quest of total domination of all life. I guess once that is achieved he could be revived, once Chaos is crushed, but as Chaos is connected to the Imperium, growing as mankind's sins grow, the chance of it ever ending is slim.

In that case, it'd be stupid of them to mess with that. They wrote a scenario that maintains the status quo forever.

Lame storytelling, but it works if you want to sell people incredibly expensive miniatures for decades.

Tell that to the World Eaters,Word Bearers,Alpha Legion,Death's Guard,Emperor's Children,Black Legion. They all succumbed and you and all of your Sisters will fall to Chaos!

Thanks for reminding me that the lore of WH40k is actually pretty amazing.

For what it is, a table top game, the lore is very good, IMO. The level of detail and thought that went into it all is quite impressive. As you said, his role keeps the status quo, keeping the story going for as long as they need. It is just a shame how they decided to overcharge and treat their fans like idiots. But then what company doesn't end up doing that.

And what happened to the traitor legions? They got their arses kicked back to the Warp and have been there crying like little girls ever since. Not even the Space Marines could best the Battle Sisters when they defended the Imperial Palace. Imagine what would have happened if we were around during the great heresy. You weak traitors would never have stood a chance. :-)
