GhostwriterDoF: Hello to you too, lovely Owl!
<ruffles your feathers playfully>

I have my eye on Wings of Prey as well since it looks great, but I don’t know anything about it and will have to watch some gameplay videos and read reviews before I can make a decision about getting it, or not (probably will).

I’ve played IL2 Sturmovik a lot, (have original game discs for the Forgotten Battles and Pacific War, which is combined in IL2 1946). There are a lot of community patches as well, that adds dozens more planes and some maps, but you don’t have to download those addons to get a great game experience. It is a bit old in graphics, doesn’t look as good as Wings of Prey, but the planes are coded to fly realistically and the AI uses that to make battles feel real as well. (Plus it’s only 2.99 on sale!)
Thanks for your review !! :)
Sure, it's cheap... on the other hand, as you mentioned it, the graphics look a bit old... I still hesitate. I'll watch some videos of Wings of Prey too, good idea ! ;)

j0ekerr: ...
I've learned to stay away from those topics, people are very opinionated, and there are quite a few fellows tilting at windmills, and before you know it, the thread is SERIOUS BUSINESS!

Now where's my vodka?
I've been known to chase windmills, from time to time. :D

Howdy!

The vodka is in the freezer....

Ixamyakxim: I don't know why, but I found this a funny post all around - thanks! ;)
I was amused too, (and have this movie in my collection).

Hey there Ghost.

I ended participating in the russkies thread, against my better judgement, because the numbers this one guy pulled out of his ass, just made me do it!

It's a fantastic movie, and it's even better because of the time it was made. It shows a humanity not really very widespread at the time, outside of hippy communes.

There's also this book which follows a suspiciously similar premise, but which I found extremely funny.

Hope you are keeping in good spirits too.

Also hoping the Theatre of War games show up here as well (I just have the Korea one).

I have no doubt that IL2 must be a good game. However, once you go full 3D in a combat flight simulator, eye candy is a very important part of the whole package, for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

'Sides I don't really like realistic aerial dogfighting all that much. Realistic simulators are often be boring. That's why I likes me Tie Fighter so much. Pew pew pew! Die rebel scum!

And Strike Suit Zero makes me feel like a Robotech pilot!

EDIT: I didn't know anything at all about Wings of Prey either, but a short google search later I find that it's, more or less, a successor to IL2 Sturmovik, since it's the pc version of this game.

Well, I’ll still keep chasing windmills, but continue to choose more appropriate battles to champion.

Yes, it is a really good movie. Even during the Cold War, people wanted to reach out to each other, which is represented in a lot of movies. Meteor is another good movie to represent that, among others.

Warfare is the result of a failure of diplomacy, and the greed of weapons manufacturers and war contractors. We must all, not just hippies, do our part in rejecting the demonization of our world neighbors, using people power, and even better Gamer power!

Everyday people don't start wars, so let us let the wealthy and the politicians and corporatists that serve them fight their own battles.

I just need a crash simulator, that's the only part I'm really good at. ;)

I know what you mean about dated graphics, though I don't mind if they are not too antiquated,
and even prefer some of the older 2D and 3D games because they run so well on new systems.

I'll always be mesmerized by the AI's flying ability in IL2, using actual tactics that fighter pilots
used, as the planes don't fly like arcade machines, but realistic planes. Plus you can turn on, or off, features
for realism, like radiator cooling and fuel mixtures, but even with all that stuff turned off, planes are limited to
flying like an actual plane, so they will stall if you try to do arcade maneuvers.

Wings of Prey sounds like one to get too. I still will watch some gameplay videos for good measure
before getting it. heh! just to make sure... thanks for the Wiki link too!

My current house isn't too bad, though!

EndreWhiteMane: I just need a crash simulator, that's the only part I'm really good at. ;)
LOL - just turn all the realism settings up to high and *bang* you're there!

I played B-17 - for a while I had my flight stick and in game controls set up in such a way that whenever I would leave the cockpit position, my AI pilots would proceed to slam the thing into the ground EVERY TIME! I went nuts for so long until I figured out it had to do with an in-game toggle setting for my throttle assignment. I forget the exact setup I had to pick, but it was pretty obtuse. Ah the "joys" of flight sims! ;)
