CarrionCrow: Hey, everyone. =)
Hello, Crow!

I was just wondering where all the lovely Americans were tonight.

How are you this evening?

Doing okay here. My biggest problem is wondering if I should make a different character for Pillars, so I can't complain too much. -laughs-

How's your night going?

EndreWhiteMane: Just woke up after my nanny nap, doing OK.

ddickinson: Glad to hear you are doing okay, was hoping for a great, but those seem to be in short supply at the moment.

How are you enjoying Original Sin?
Love it so far, just reading and playing around a bit at this point.
So far it's everything I'd hoped LoX was, only without the stupid parts. :-)

ddickinson: And after 24009 posts, I don't think there has been a major case of someone getting too personal or nasty. I think Crow's thread is doing quite well. Speaking of Crow, I wonder where the Americans are tonight?

Speaking of Americans, Hello Endre! *big hug*

How are you tonight?

CarrionCrow: I'm here, dozed off but I'm awake again.
Must be synchronized dozing, I just woke up too. ;)

What makes you want to make a different character?

My evening has been quite nice. A bit of dancing and some lovely time with partner. Now I am just winding down from the day before I get some sleep.

Hopefully, it wasn't so synchronized that you also fell asleep in a frigging chair like I did. -laughs-

That's good to hear. Be sure to let me know how it goes as the game looks interesting. It's not a game I would get anytime soon, due to my huge backlog, but I will probably get it eventually.
See you tomorrow. I'm going to bed.

Good Night!

Well, I'm figuring Pillars is going to be a huge game, even for a single run, with all kinds of stuff to find.
That of course makes me think a rogue character could be a good first choice, given their general ability to find stuff other classes can't.
Then on top of that, I tended to run with a cleric for Baldur's Gate since they're incredibly hard to kill when they've got a few levels so their healing spell repertoire starts expanding.
And then on top of that, Pillars has two classes that aren't in the whole Baldur's Gate/Icewind collection called ciphers and chanters.
Ciphers use a form of psionics (mind-related magic) which I loved way back when I bought the AD&D Psionics Handbook 20 years ago, and as soon as I found that chanters weren't bards (because seriously, fuck bards unless they're Stilton, he's the only bard in the world that doesn't make me think "worthless gibbering arrow magnet"), I got interested in those too.

CarrionCrow: D&D nerd talk... :-)
I see. *shrugs shoulders and looks confused* :-)

I can see why would want to choose a better character, one that could be better suited for a first time play-through. But would it not be more fun playing as a character you really enjoy, rather than one just because it is more evenly balanced?

-laughs- Okay, I'll rephrase.

Rogues find more stuff. That's good.
Clerics stay alive longer. That's good.
Ciphers have new ways of killing things. That's good.
Chanters have new ways of killing things. That's good.
And I love wizards because they end up being able to kill lots of things at once.

I can only play as one of those for my character and I can't decide.
(And people say I can't be succinct every once in a while...)

I can see the advantages of them all. Do you think you will do multiple play-throughs of the game? If so, then perhaps start with the Rogues, to get a fuller experience of the game by discovering more items etc, then on your next play-though pick a role that interests you more. If you were only planning on one play-through at the moment, I would go for one of the new characters and have some fun with them. But I do not play many D&D type games, so my point of view is probably not that helpful. But I am sure others on here will be able to offer better advice.

I'm figuring it's pretty much inevitable. Games like Pillars or Original Sin, they're not going to be "please for the love of god kill me to make the slog end" experiences like, say, Lords of Xulima.
You'll actually want to go back to those worlds to see more stuff.

Actually, that's very helpful. Thank you. =) (Also, we need to get you into a game like Icewind Dale, get you to dip your toe in that pool of water without burying you in ten tons of dialogue like Baldur's Gate 2 would.)
