ElTerprise: Me neither at first but i really liked FTL which made me more open for this kind of games.
I'm on the fence of buying This War of Mine, now that it's on sale. I'm really fascinated by the premise - the you not even know how long the game will last. On the other hand I have a backlog of games that towers over the little time I can actually spend playing. And there will be other sales in the future I guess.

But i'm often confused of the term of Roguelike and Roguelite - what's actually the difference?
All i know is that ToME is an actual Roguelike....

I really want that game too. Playing as civilians in a war trying to survive is definitely something new. But i think i'll wait for a bigger sale. I still haven't played most of the games i got from the insomnia sale and PoE is also waiting....

ElTerprise: Good evening! Quite good. Relaxing for the most part.

How are you doing this evening?
Good evening! Glad to hear you had a relaxing evening.

I am doing very well, thank you.

How are you tonight?

toxicTom: *big good evening and goodnight hug*

I'm fine, a short summary is a few posts above :-)
How are you and your family faring?
*big return hug*

Good evening and good night, Herr Tom!

I just read you overview, sounds like a nice evening.

I am doing good, thank you. I went to visit my mother tonight and she is in high spirits about being home. So fingers crossed nothing else will crop up.

How is your wife? Is her health still improving?

adaliabooks: Hey ddickinson :)

Fine here, how about you? Nice evening?
Hello!

Glad to hear you are doing fine.

I had a very nice evening, thank you. Some spontaneous dancing while preparing dinner and a little more before bed (my partner is excited about the ball we are going to in a few weeks and is keen to practice her dancing). It was some Tango at dinner and a nice slow-dance before my partner went to bed. So a very pleasant and fun evening for me.

How are you and your good lady? I hope you two have had an enjoyable night?

So have you made a final decision with your partner what colour your dress will have?

It depends really, very literally roguelike means like the game Rogue which started it all. To me a roguelike has permadeath, random levels / dungeons, lots of loot collection, high difficulty and ASCII graphics. I'd also add that the ones I've played also tend to have extensive character creation and levelling up choices but I'm not sure that's a strict part of the formula.
Roguelites are games that borrow some of these elements (usually random levels, permadeath and the difficulty) but use them in different ways, for example Rogue Legacy is a roguelite because it has permadeath and random levels, but it bares little resemblance to the roguelike dungeon crawler / rpgs that inspired it.

And I'm sure someone else would probably give you a completely different answer XD

Not yet. We are just waiting to find out what some of the others are going to wear. If they will all be in bright colours then we will go for red, if it's a more formal thing then we will go with the black. I'm showing my friend the dress tomorrow and getting measured up for it, then all we need to do is decide on the colour.

How are you tonight? I bet you are looking forward to your long weekend off work?

*big random hug*

Sounds nice :)

Yeah, we had a snooze after finishing working because we were tired and we just had dinner and a glass of wine while doing our usual messing online and watching TV, so a nice evening :)

So according to your definition FTL would actually be a roguelite, right?

Really good but the last few minutes my feline overlord ^^ tries to trick me into letting him outside by all available means which is somewhat annoying right now....

That's sounds nice as well. What days are you working this week? Are you a red wine or white wine drinker?

Well I am glad to hear you are getting some time off to relax and have some fun with your family. Do you know what you and your mum will be baking, or will you decide when you get there?

Probably in the strictest sense. It does have most of the main elements (random, permadeath, customisation and difficulty) but the setting, combat and graphics probably stop it from being a roguelike... but it's a very loose definition. Before the last few years roguelikes were all very similar, non profit, open source, ASCII graphic games made by small teams or individuals, most of them based on the core set of Rogue, Hack / Nethack and Angband. But now all the people who have been playing them for years have clearly gone into indie development and they've gone more mainstream. Now there are tons of games being called roguelikes which only share some of the characteristics of the original roguelikes.

My mum made some plans, but I don't know yet, she'll tell me tomorrow evening :-)

Kind of working all week, but actually out tomorrow night, Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon and Monday evening.

Both, generally white as I think cheap white wine is a lot more drinkable than cheap red, but we do drink red on occasion too.
To be honest, I'm Irish and other than beer (which I've never liked) I'll pretty much drink anything ;)

I thought so because a lot of games nowadays get the roguelike label just because they have perma-death.... Thank you a lot for all the information :).

Off to bed :)

Talk tomorrow.
