jabotinsky1948: same here, for the last 4 years I've made 3d graphics and no sound. Now I've figured out how to play a sound in my collection of game libaries, been making indoor gunshots using the first bit of outdoor gunshots and audacity reverb.

adaliabooks: Is it just for fun or are you working on something?
Playing with sounds can be a lot of fun, audacity is great. I remember one computer I used to have came with some kind of sound lab thing from the makers of the sound card that let you add echo and reverb and all sorts to recorded sounds or music files. Had a lot of fun with that..
kind of both. it's inspired by wolf3d, like to iterate on it just a little bit.

jabotinsky1948: I'm making a '2d grid of cubes' tech demo with advanced pre-rendered sounds. maybe I'll just learn OpenAL instead.

adaliabooks: I was in the very early stages of making a 4x game, but haven't really done anything for a few weeks due to hitting some bumps and being busier with work. Currently toying with making a roguelike after playing ToME, it's something I've always wanted to do and the ToME engine is free (and open source I believe) so it might not even be that difficult... (famous last words those)

To be honest I've never really looked at sounds / music... I've always figured if I actually got so far with a project that they would be required I could learn what I needed then, but have yet to reach that point yet. Which should tell you a lot about how far I usually get with my ideas...
But then you're actually way further than i am. I always thought of making some kind of game but the only programming experiences i have are from school (only a bit HTML and BASIC ^^). But i watched some tutorials for the unity engine so maybe if i have time i'll do some type of TBS game....

Not sure whether I'll ever finish anything, but I enjoy trying :)
I've been programming on and off for years, entirely self taught, and would definitely urge anyone to give it a go. It's not really all that difficult.
I've never got on with Unity when I've tried to use it, but if your not as comfortable working with just code or want to get going quicker it's probably a good place to start.

I'll just have no real experience with code. Is it easy to get in into it?

As far as I remember I started when I was about 10... so I'd say it's not too hard.. ;)
There are tons of great resources online, and it's very rewarding when you get something to work and do what you want.

Anyway, off to bed now. Night all!

All right...wooden chair sleeping with a cramped computer desk for a pillow. Good times.

Figuring I must've slept, since there are more than a few large gaps in my memory of the day.

Good morning / evening
Sounds like you need to go to bed, that kind of sleep doesn't do anyone much good. I'm sure you're pretty tired.

I'm just stopping by to say hello, then leaving again, couldn't log in this morning, as my internet was playing up.
Hope everyone has a good day, or a good night's sleep. (hint hint) ;-)

I'm staying logged in - trying to download some games, it's embarrassing having all these games that I haven't even downloaded, and I don't want them to suddenly disappear out of GOG like others I read about. Very slow process, as the GOG downloader doesn't work on this computer.
*good morning hugs and waves*
