CarrionCrow: I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but you're in a worse situation than being influenced by my masochism.
It's your own nostalgia that's got you locked into that one.
avatar
moonshineshadow: That might be true :P
Ah well. In the grand scheme of things, that isn't such a bad thing.
You'll play it, you'll clear it, it probably won't leave much of a memory aside from being that one game where you had to wait an inordinately long time to regenerate, and you'll play something better.

Amusingly enough, I've actually got Demon Stone and Dragonshard to play, and I'm thinking that they might not be as bad as people make them out to be, rather than going in knowing they'll both be garbage.

I didn't play that much of it but i thought that Dragonshard was quite okay. Not a masterpiece but decent.

gunsynd: We have had this conversation before, hugs between men is still a no no as far as I'm
concerned:-)

ddickinson: I know, I was only playing. :-)

avatar
CarrionCrow: Doing all right here, actively trying to play games that aren't total crap at the moment. =)

Yes, it seems like my sleep pattern (such as it is) is trying to shift again. The fun part will be when I try to detox a bit from all the stimulants. Figuring it'll shift again, and by quite a bit.

I'm sorry you got injured, but glad that you were still able to have a good time. How was your partner's experience playing the violin?
avatar
ddickinson: Well hopefully your sleeping patterns won't cause you too much trouble.

My arm will be okay, just a simple accident. It's getting quite stiff and painful, but a few days and it should start to get better, and at least I can still use it through the pain, so I can keep working. My partner was quite nervous at first, but a few words of encouragement and she slowly started to relax and did great. She is really good with the violin, and she played her piece perfectly.

avatar
ElTerprise: I'm sorry that you got injured and i read over it earlier.
avatar
ddickinson: Thank you. I will be okay, it just an accident. Luckily nothing was broken, so it will just take a while for the bruising and swelling to come out before it gets better. Nothing I haven't had to deal with before.
It'll be okay. No need to worry there. If the times that I'm around are different for a while, it'll be due to that.

Not surprised a bit that you'll keep on working, just be careful to not aggravate it.
Got off the phone a bit ago with a relative who messed up his shoulder because he felt the need to assist me in lifting extremely large and heavy tires.
He knew he was injured, but he did it anyway and didn't listen when I told him that I'd cover it so he didn't get hurt.

She's a braver person than I am. Social situations like that? Uh uh, no way. But she got through it and did really well.

Stilton: Hi folks! Are we all well?

*fragrant belches and flatulent parps*

CarrionCrow: Good evening. =)

Not quite sure how to take that greeting. Thinking that either you just had a large meal, or that I need to keep sources of flame away from you...

Can't complain here, just very slowly working my way through Legend of Grimrock.
How's your evening going?
Its going good (I think). I've been trying to get my head around LInuxese and I think I've made progress. It feels a bit like one pace forward, ten paces back at times, but there's been some progress. How's Grimrock, when you're not throwing yourself into holes?

Likewise. An upshot of playing garbage from time to time, it helps put things into perspective a bit.
It might not be fantastic, but I get the feeling it won't be anywhere near as bad as some of the crap I've done.
Hey everyone.

Largely absent today as I installed Tales of Maj'Eyal and between that and Halfway have spent most of the day gaming (and ignoring all the other things I should have done, yay!)

ToME is great. It's not quite ADOM (but I don't think anything ever will be for me, I love that game) but it's a great Roguelike. I must be mad, I tried to play it with the tiled graphics but couldn't get into it until I swapped to proper traditional ASCII. If my player is not represented by an @ then it's not a Roguelike!
It's got some flaws, like the fact the text covers a part of the actual map... but I can see myself having a lot if fun with it.

Halfway seems a little like a one trick pony, but it's fun anyway.

At a glance, Linux seems a bit on the impenetrable side if you're not already a serious tech person.
Given that, I can imagine the progress to be very slow and gradual. But since you're far from being an idiot, you'll get it with a bit of time, I'm sure.

It's pretty good. Right now I'm stuck trying to get through a maze of slime monsters that chew my party to pieces like a starving dog with a bone, but I'll get through it eventually.
The atmosphere is quite nice. I don't have music playing over the top of it, since there isn't much music and you really want to be able to hear things like, say, giant spiders creeping up behind you or the sound of a door opening in the far distance after you find and hit a switch.

Don't worry, I am not about to over do it and cause any more damage to my arm. It is strapped up and will be fine. Things always get stiff and painful as the swelling and stuff comes out.

I am sorry to hear your relative has hurt his shoulder, I hope it's nothing permanent?

I have never had a problem with social situations, but I know many do. She was more nervous about getting it wrong, as she does not practice must anymore. She has been playing it since she was a child, and used to play in an orchestra when she was in college, but has not really done much for a few months. Once she started she was great, and as far as I could tell, no errors at all.

Good evening. =)

Playing games rather than hoarding them...we're all going to get our collector's licenses revoked at this rate.

Good to hear that Tales of Maj'Eyal is enjoyable. I tried to put it on and my brain said, "You need to clear your plate first. This one is going to be BIG."

Halfway feels like a small-budget indie team's take on an Alien/Aliens-type scenario, only with turn-based tactical combat rather than a first-person shooter type of thing.

Just be careful. Don't want you to get more injured. (Nagging over now, promise. =) )

With him, it's a persistent thing. He has to use it for work, but when he has downtime he still wants to go out and do things, even when he should be resting and healing up.
My constant reminders that they have a large, fairly strong relative at their disposal so they don't have to hurt themselves are only heeded about half the time.

Yes, it's not much fun. Makes things like crowds less than pleasant, let alone performing in front of them.
Sounds like she worried for no reason, ultimately. Her ability was more than sufficient.

It is and it isn't.. like FTL each play through probably won't take too long (because you will die) at least until you are better, but each time you die you will want to start again. But once you can get to stage where your character is really progressing and surviving you'll probably need to put quite a few hours in to finish it...

That sounds about right for Halfway. So far there doesn't seem to be much progression, just a little better equipment here and there. But the levels are well designed and fun and the story isn't bad so as long as they can keep that up I'll be happy.
Need to get some sleep now *good night hugs and waves* See you all later!

Not surprised there. Judas has mentioned it repeatedly, and it sounds like he's put a lot of time into it, but he still hasn't beaten it as far as I know.

That works. I don't expect masterpieces every single time, especially from smaller groups.
Just so long as they don't screw up massively or blatantly stop giving a shit mid-game.
