ddickinson: Good morning, everyone!

avatar
CarrionCrow: Yeah, within a couple hours people from Europe should be getting up, doing their weekend thing.
avatar
ddickinson: Lucky buggers, some of us have been up since 5am. :-)
Good morning. =)

-laughs- Very true. Would include myself, but I don't work on a farm, I'm just weird, so that doesn't really count when it comes to people like yourself who have to start working hard at the crack of dawn.

How are you doing so far? Get any more sleep than a single hour? (Hopefully?)
avatar
adaliabooks: I think I know this (although my knowledge comes from either Big Bang Theory or QI so it may not be 100% accurate) but apparently it comes from when beds had ropes to hold the mattress and you would have to tighten them to improve the support (I suppose?) which is where the phrase comes from.
That's only one theory, and one that is not really sound. It was suggested only recently on some BBC antiques show and is considered to be incorrect, as it is the bed that is kept tight, not the person sleeping.

No one really knows where it came from, and there are several theories. One of the earliest recording of it was a quite that said "Sleep tight and wake bright". So it's possible it's just a nice rhyme. But who knows.

Good morning! Are you at work today?
avatar
adaliabooks: Hey guys.

avatar
trentonlf: I think it can mean sleep soundly or sleep securely, but I believe it refers to the meaning of the word tight, look at #20

Good morning. =)

Have to say it, the first thing that came to mind reading your explanation is that a long time ago, people were very confused, and so they tied the bed up instead of each other...

But anyway. How's your morning going?

Good morning, Crow! *morning hug*

No sleep at all for me sadly. But I am feeling okay, I tend to just lay on the bed and rest, so while I don't get any sleep at least I am resting, which seems to be more beneficial compared to when I am more active when I can't sleep.

How are you today? Anything fun planned for your weekend?

Yeah, I wasn't sure but I have this pointless knowledge sitting in my head and I just like to share it sometimes XD
And it sounds like it might be right, so many of the phrases we use today come from things like that (sweating like a pig is the only one I can think of off the top of my head, nothing to do with pigs at all, but actually about cooling pig iron)

Good morning to you too, yeah we're out tonight for our regular evening pitch. Been good the last two weeks and hopefully will be even better tonight.

Sheesh...staying awake and staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Sounds...not fun.

Can't complain here. I should be trying to sleep since there's stuff to do today, but here I am.

I don't really do social-type things, or outside of the house-type things, so I'm figuring the weekend will be a combo of doing stuff around the house, maybe some yardwork (using the word yard very loosely since it's sand and dust, then the usual internet/video/games thing.

Fine so far, but I have only just woken up (Is it odd that the first thing I do most mornings is check the forum here?)
Gidday dd,adalia:-)

I don't think that's weird. Could be worse, you might be one of the freaks that wants to look at stuff that will upset and/or make them angry before they've even had morning coffee.

Fingers crossed you have another good day at work. How is the weather where you are? Here it is very windy, windy enough to stop me working on the greenhouses. Hopefully the weather will be fine for you and you will have lots of customers fighting over some good pizza.

Well I had someone more pretty to stare at instead of the ceiling :-). I would rather be doing things, but as I said, I find that just relaxing helps a lot. If I am more mobile during the night I tend to be more tired in the morning. But I can think of worse ways to spend the night than watching my partner sleeping peacefully.

I would hate having a yard with sand and dust, especially during the hotter seasons. I love gardening and having lots of nice flowers. I usually pick a nice rose from one of my rose bushes and leave it on the pillow for my partner to wake up to during spring and summer.

I hope you have a nice and relaxing day, other than the house stuff and yard work. I am stuck in doors at work mostly today, due to the very strong winds stopping what I had planned. I still have quite a lot to do outside, but I can do them during the day while taking a break from paper work. Then tonight I am playing Outlast with my partner, which I am looking forward to.

How has your weekend been so far? Are you well?

zenwan: Good morning, evening - coffee, yum. :-) 5am here, and everybody is sleeping or gaming, it seems.

Hi to you when you get here, Crow - sorry I missed you yesterday. I remember reading somewhere about Galaxy, but can't find where. I think you have to be one of the Chosen Ones?
Hope that it's at least a little less frustrating than your last few games have been.

I tried to join in here yesterday afternoon, but after I'd posted once or twice, the GOGbear had other ideas. Hope it stays away today.
Meantime I have stuff to do, letters to write and a reference for a friend applying for a post at a University - academics are very picky about getting just the right reference, so I have to brush up on my jargon. ;-)

We've had lots of rain here, the trees are happy and should be set for the long hot dry summer to come. More rain predicted today, I hope the power doesn't go off. I'll be sure to have a flask of coffee ready, just in case. :-)

I'll leave you with my best wishes for a very happy day or night, and my hopes that things will be better for those who are struggling.
My replies to most of you never seem to get noticed; I seem to be mostly rather invisible here, but my good thoughts are with you all the same. I guess this thread moves too fast for people to keep up, including me.
In any event, I don't mind being invisible, I'm a quiet, solitary type. :-)

Take care.

CarrionCrow: Good morning. =)

It's okay, no need to apologize. I was distracted doing other things.

Yes, got an invite for it earlier today. Will need to try it out fully when my bandwidth's in better shape.
It's an alpha, so any possible frustration is mitigated quite a bit by that knowledge.
The crappy games I play, on the other hand...those are supposedly finished products.

It will be good when GOG can actually get the site back to a stable form. Having it in upheaval all the time is getting rather old, especially considering that as people have said, improving the forum is not close to even being a low priority right now.

More coffee - always a good idea. ;) Getting to enjoy some rain is an added bonus.

The thread's odd, stopping and starting when people choose for it to.
And of course, having notifications for replies or messages being almost nonexistent isn't helping matters much.
I have to leave my GOG downloader on to get semi-current info regarding responses, and continually check my email to see if someone's sent me a message.

I hope you have a good day as well, and thank you for the kindness.
Also, don't worry about being invisible. Everyone's a ghost here. ;)
*snip snip*

Hi Crow, this is your ghostly friend, back again. Shortened your post for the sake of readability, but I hate to snip your posts, because you are such a good threadfather,.
You are always looking out for everyone, and asking after their problems and issues. It's very kind - and takes a lot of time and effort, which is greatly appreciated, by me at least. I went through all your recent posts and added a plus to them all, for kindness and caring for your little thread-charges. :-D No wonder people gravitate to this thread. You may not 'do hugs' but you make people feel better with your words and kindness.

And thank you for the headsup regarding game 'rentals'. I had never looked at it like that before. Wish that GOG would get Civilization, Rise of Nations, Europa Universalis, etc, then I'd never have much reason to go to that other place.

Good morning, ddickinson, adalia and good evening to you in Oz, gunsynd.

I'm another very early riser, not usually online at this time, I just made a quick flyby to thank Crow and now I'm off again.

Hope you all have a wonderful day / evening, and that sleep will soon be your friend again, DD (if I may call you that?)

At least you've got a handle on how to keep the sleeplessness from being even more of an energy drain, so that's
good.
And yes, you make a very good point. Someone to look at beats the crap out of the ceiling, I'm sure.

Gardening isn't exactly doable here. The ground would kill anything I tried to plant. The only things that grow are weeds full of stickers.
The desert kinda sucks, just in case that wasn't already obvious.

It shouldn't be anything too terribly taxing, some errands to run at most along with the previously mentioned thing.
Hopefully the wind tunnel over the farm will let up so you can do what you need to.
I've played a little bit of Outlast, and it looks promising as horror titles go. If you and your partner enjoy such things, it should be good. =)

No need to worry about editing things I post. If you don't sometimes, it ends up taking quite a bit of space with repeats.

Thank you for the compliments also, they're much appreciated. =)

Not anything special, though, I'm just someone who's here a lot. Without the good people who come here, it'd be nothing but me talking to myself.

Fingers crossed with Disney, Paradox and Warner Bros. joining the party that more larger publishers will be coming to GOG in the near future so titles like the ones you mentioned will become available.

Have a good day, talk with you later on. =)

Good mevening, everyone. Hope things are going okay, and all that stuff...

Regarding rentals... There are some DRM-free games on the competition, aren't there? VVVVVV and Lume jump to my mind first as games that you can download, then uninstall the client, and move to any computer you would like...
just poppin' in to say thanks CarrionCrow for the idea to dive into an epic world again. I am installing Divine Divinity II Director's Cut at the moment. Have had it for over a year, always thought it might be crappy for some reason. Well at least I'm gonna give it a chance today and feeling rather excited. Also Miami Nights 1984 - 80's retro pop is good to uplift the mood.
Cheerio and may thine day shine bright for all!

Good morning. =)

I think there are some items that don't have DRM, yes. Not sure which ones offhand, though.

How are you doing?

Not a problem. =)

Also, thank you for reminding me that I should be chewing through that series before I get ahold of Original Sin.
Hate doing things out of order.

If you're looking for more synth-type music like Miami Nights, Carpenter Brut and Perturbator are both good.
Wurzelkraft suggested the latter and I found the former from the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack.

Have a good day and enjoy the game. =)
