Can't say I've had the displeasure. All my encounters have gone as far as screaming, "I don't want to shoot you but I will if I have to, so piss off!"
Then they look at me like I'm stupid and fly away.

What can I say, I've got a soft spot for utter garbage. -laughs- Hell, already own almost every other infamous, despised or otherwise absolute crap title on GOG, couldn't consider the collection complete without that one.

Have you never handled an owl, or another bird of prey? I do all the time, we have bird of prey displays during the summer and we get to handle some beautiful birds. I have wild owls (and other birds of prey) near me and I just love watching them hunt. We have big giant corn-fed crows as well. With sinister red eyes, and they are always companied by a scruffy scarecrow with a big blue eye. ;-)

Playing in a barn loft as a kid, got a little closer to her nest than she was willing to overlook. Just a barn owl but still about 11-12 pounds of royally pissed off. :/

No, haven't ever done that. More of a city person who just happens to live in the middle of nowhere.
Can definitely see the appeal, though. Used to see packs of crows who'd talk to each other about where to get a fresh meal, typically when some animal had died of the cold.
By the time they'd all converged, there could be over a hundred in one place. Pretty incredible to watch.

Most kinds, Owl, Falcons, Kestrels, Hawks, Eagles, pretty much anything, even Parrot displays. It's not always such a wide selection, it depends on the display. Often it's Hawks and Falcons, with demonstrations of them hunting etc. There are some castles that I visit in the summer that have some huge birds, but you can't handle a lot of them. I saw a huge Steller Sea Eagle that just looked gigantic, I think it's wingspan was over 8 foot.


Edit: I did not mean to imply that we personally have them, just that they have them in the area where I live and I go to see them.

I love birds of prey. My girlfriend has bought flying experiences for me for my birthday a couple of times. We did a hawk walk a few years ago, one of the best things I've ever done.
There's a place near us that does a full day experience where you get to fly owls, do a hawk walk and fly an eagle (which I would absolutely love to do) and we'll probably do that when we have some money again.

I'm always on the look out for wild birds of prey when we're out and about. We get quite a few buzzards and kestrels around here and I've seen wild red kites a few times.

Cats can make a mess of you, Landlord's boyfriend found mine in the garage, picked it up and hit the closer for the garage door, cat panicked, he tried to hang on. Voila', bloody mess. ;-)
AND, I just did some research on barn owls. Apparently that big scary owl that I met as a kid probably weighed closer to 4 pounds! I'd really hate to meet a pissed off Great Horned close up. :O
In the summer I can usually see 4-5 Bald Eagles from my front porch hunting over the river. Awe inspiring sight.

That's not fair! I only got to hold them, but you got to ride them, those must be some big birds. ;-)

They are lovely though, especially when you get to see them hunt. The place near you sounds very nice, I go to bird of prey shows that are seasonal, not any static place. During the summer they host displays quite often all over the countryside, especially near English Heritage tourist sites. But my favourite is the castle ones, seeing those big birds of prey flying around a medieval castle, and then sometimes getting to hold them and see just how big those claws are. Always fun.

You mean you don't know? They are just waiting for you to fall asleep on the porch so they can do some EndreWhiteMane hunting. You will fall asleep and the next thing you know your in a nest getting eaten by baby eagles. All the hunting over the river is just practice and to throw you off guard. :-)

I've handled Great Horned Owls a couple of times, they're just big softies ;)
They're usually stuffing their faces with chicken at the time though, so probably not very grumpy.

I'd love to see Eagles in the wild. I've seen a captive one flown in a demonstration, but never one in the wild.
There are quite a few birds of prey centres near by, and a few seasonal shows too like the ones near you.

I've never been to the place that does the whole day experience, but it's a wild life park and they have other stuff too like feeding lemurs and tapirs, which I would also love to do :)

There are a few bird of prey centres and wildlife parks near me that have bird of prey displays, but for some reason I have never been to see the displays. I have been to the wildlife parks around the country, but for the general park, not just for birds (usually too crowded to enjoy the displays). Perhaps this coming summer I should look at visiting some bird of prey centres. I still enjoy the seasonal displays, especially the ones near castles and heritage sites, as they often get dressed up and it has a medieval theme.
