ddickinson: Normally the funeral would have been held sooner, but the chapel and crematorium were damaged recently, due to a drunk driver, so there is a slight delay. That is the main reason for the delay, another is that my brother's wife is finding it hard to let go, which is understandable. I offered to help as sadly I have experience sorting such things, and I wanted to try to make things easier for them.

Fingerless mitts sound nice, and perfect for you to wear while you are invading cold places while capturing stars under the cover of Napoleon Owl. :-)
Bad luck for the crematorium damages...
I understand... it must be -really- hard to let go... you'll never be prepared or ready to accept this... that's not the natural order of things...
Yes, I love fingerless mitts ; I made many :)
And yes, this is just what I need to conquer the world !!! ):-| heeheehee...

CarrionCrow: Take a break from a game, check in with the thread, and there's something really frigging awesome waiting for me.

Thank you, I'll be sure to let you know what I think of it. =)

Also, just out of curiosity, is your own personal wishlist up to date?
It is very short and up to date, but I'm ok right now. Lot's of games to play in front of me ;)

trentonlf: Sadly though, people are all about "what have you done for me recently" and the past is just a faded memory.
That's very true. I only meant my post as a bit of fun, as it's often Americans who make the joke about the French. I would understand it from the English, given our history and rivalry with the French, but I just find it fun when a nation that owes its very creation to the French enjoys making fun of the French.

Also, I don't want it to sound like I am all serious about this, I know that it was just a bit of playful banter, and not a serious insult or anything like that. I just let my historian brain get carried away from time to time. :-)

That could be said for lots of people. -laughs-

Yes, I'd have to say that's the shortest list I've seen recently. 126 dollars retail and it'd be clear. Interesting.

ddickinson: I always find it quite comical when the Americans make fun of the French, especially given the French role in the American war of independence. After all, if not for France, Spain, and the Netherlands helping the Americans, you would have never won the war. So while you helped to free France in the two world wars, they helped to establish your nation. Also, it's not like the US joined the two world wars specifically to help France, they joined to protect themselves, helping France was just a part of that. Whereas France joined your war of independence to help you (and to get one over on us). So I would think that would make things even. :-)
Aaaah well spoken \o/
Enough of these people who laugh about french people :-p

I wouldn't worry about your statement too much.
If anything, the people who make a big deal about it are the ones who wish to see the U.S. as the great liberators, the eternal powerhouse, no matter what.
Many people would disregard history in order to maintain their own delusional way of seeing things.

I know, who do these American think they are laughing at the French. That's England's job. :-)

(Only joking, of course.)
I'd just like to point out, I'm not an American who makes fun of the French. I'm an American who makes fun of EVERYBODY!

Usually myself. :P

Best way to do it, really. Every group has something worthy of playful mockery. =)

I think I mentioned on here before that before life decided to throw some pretty big obstacles in my way, I was close to getting a doctorate in history and becoming a full fledged historian. And not be be rude, but I have found that Americans are some of the worst people to talk about history with, especially if your opinions differers from theirs. They take it too personally and as though it is an attack against them, when in fact it's just them being overly patriotic and wishing to see their nation as perfect. Not that Americans are the only ones to do this or course.

Even now I am worried I will end up somehow offending someone or starting a silly argument with what I just said. I guess I should just stay quiet just in case, as I don't want to derail the thread in that particular direction.

I think tomorrow will be hard for them both, finalising the arrangement and picking out the grave stone. They keep trying to put a brave face on it but they fail at it. Losing your child so young is bound to do that to the parents, and the rest of the family.

Are you knitting the fingerless mitts for the Owlets or for yourself?

Yes, D. I'm going to take great offense at you telling the truth.
Now we must engage in digital thumb wrestling to determine the winner. Loser has to say the other person is right.
Unless I lose, in which case I'll still say you're wrong anyway. -laughs-

The sad thing is, a lot of people actually operate in such a way.
It's intensely silly and more than a little psychotic ultimately, but that's how it goes.
Hey everyone. Wanted to stop by for a quick hello and *hug* for anyone who wants one before I pass out for the night.

An admirable sense of humor (seriously.) That is how Trey Parker and Matt Stone do it, and it works perfectly, in my opinion.

It should be our job to make fun of you :-P
"We whooped you British twice, as I recollect." - Tom Berenger as James Longstreet in "Gettysburg" ;-)

You would be surprised at the amount of nasty abuse I have got as a result of telling the truth. That's why I am always wary of mentioning things like this, as I like to have a nice time on the forum, not a silly argument.

I agree with Crow, I wouldn't worry too much about what you said and speak your mind. You are a very smart woman and should share it as there are already too many people who hesitate. If someone is offended by the truth that's then the issue is them not you. It's like my stance on racism and bigotry because someone is gay or sick, the only reason it's an issue is because people make it an issue.

Treat a person as you want to be treated. Making a snap judgement about someone because they are gay, black, white, brown, etc.. deprives you of the opportunity to meet some pretty awesome people. Same can be said, if you are afraid to speak your mind because it might offend someone you are depriving yourself and others of knowing a truly awesome person ;)
