Stilton: Having sat through (almost) three of these extravaganzas, I still don't understand the principle behind having only two (or even a dozen) games available at any one time. If its a sale, GOG ought to try selling the stuff by making all of it available to everyone all of the time. Have it last only a weekend if they want to inject some urgency into the proceedings, but this present approach really is pants. Too frequently there are long drawn out periods where people are aching to spend money on the titles they want but are forced to watch their fingernails grow instead. I just don't get it.
I guess the idea would be to increase anticipation, the amount of time people discuss something which could then lead to increased sales via word of mouth.

Also, while I love GOG, I have to be straight about things - their technical side frequently falls to shit.
The site's been trying to die with people going hard after two games. If they put out a dozen, it'd be awesome. We could plan, budget, have a concrete idea what to do with no waiting.
But the site would also probably explode....

CarrionCrow: I might be about 75 percent out of my gourd on a daily basis, but I refuse to have my head up my ass so hard that if I clench up I might kill myself from sphincter-induced asphyxiation, so I can't really be like those people are. ;)
In reality it's the same with about 80 to 90 percent of the rest of our population.

I have to say of course it is not the best approach to reach a huge amount of people but for that we have the summer sale etc. For me Insomnia was always about this trying to get a really good deal but also facing the chance that it might be gone before you could get it. It is always kind of fun. At last that is how it always was for me for the fast selling games. This snail sale going on right now is just boring.

I think it's about the anticipation, and the gimmicks.
Yeah, they could have just put them all up for sale at once and left it at that, but would it have created any of the buzz this sale does? How long have people on the forums been talking about the last two?
I think they're trying to stand out from the competition a bit, if they put everything out at once it would be just another sale, like the ones you find on a dozen other stores every week.
It's also possible they can give better discounts this way, as even though the games are cheap, because they are limited in time and quantity it doesn't devalue the game long term.

Plus, I know if this had been any other sale I would probably have chosen a game or two I was interested in and bought them and that would be it, as it is I bought four games, got interested in quite a few others and generally had fun, which improves my relationship with GoG.

That being said, the concept behind the sale is clearly ridiculous, but it obviously works :D

Edit: Plus, all you need to do is look at the Tracker Thread to see that a load of new customers have also engaged with the forums, which is bound to get them buying more games long term.

This is a sale with its own game woven into it.

You might win, and you might not. That's definitely part of the appeal.

You can hit the Summer sale, gear up like crazy, but it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

The tracker thread is something like 20 times larger than the official thread....that is frigging nuts, even with tracker threads routinely annihilating the official ones in terms of post count.

Additional - a request for people, if you feel like it and have time on your hands at some point.

I know I asked earlier for people to keep their lists updated. Alongside that, if people could go through them, and think on what's considered high priority, that would be hugely appreciated. Thank you. =)

Valid points all. But I'm still not convinced... ;-)

Your perspective also makes sense. Sometimes you don't want all the preamble, the gimmicks, the waiting around.
Sometimes it's really great to be able to buzzsaw your way through, get in fast, pick what you want from start to finish, then get the hell back out without timers or lack of sleep getting in the way.

I think there are more new people than ever this time, which is why complete dead horses like torchlight are selling.
Hell I have a free copy of it that so old the bits are rearranging themselves into what appears to be a recipe keeping program.
I know I wouldn't want to be tech support for the next few weeks. :/

-laughing hard- "Yes, hey there Support. You are not going to believe this shit, but I think my copy of Torchlight has somehow transmogrified itself into a copy of Cooking Mama.
I know, I know, I'm just as baffled as you, that game isn't even for PC's. And yet, here it is.
Can I get a replacement and possibly a cyber-exorcist for my haunted computer, please?"

Nah, me neither. When you stop and think about the sale it's stupid, but the point is they don't want you to do that ;)

All up to date, same as the notes why they are on the list ;-) But nothing has a really high priority :-)

It's silly. Ultimately, the whole thing, from top to bottom, is very, very silly.

I don't mind, though. When I heard it was coming, I got giddy in a way that typically doesn't happen over anything.

I'm not entirely sure how to prioritise my wishlist, it just gets imported from GoG so I'm not sure how to add notes etc...
