That was kinda profound. Don't know whether I should feel better, or worse. :-)

Stilton: Its nice to sit here and peacefully watch the GOG world go round now that my wants are no longer (for this sale, anyway). Although I've been taking things in a much more sedate manner than in past sales, its still good to have it all done with. The obsessive approach sucks so much energy out of my ageing body its just not worth doing any more. I'm not sure there's really much more I want from GOG's current list. My wishlist currently stands at 32, which is fairly modest, and although that will fluctuate as moods change and new items appear, I can't see it changing significantly. I don't know if I like that or not - having a whole load of stuff to aim for was sort of exciting, but having the bulk of it behind me is a lot more relaxing. Owning/wanting stuff is weird. On one hand it validates life by, in its way, making it more pleasurable, and on the other it takes you away from doing things you feel are morally more worthwhile, which destabilizes. To consume, or not to consume, that might well be the question. For most of us the pleasure principle wins out and we spend until we're sated, at least temporarily. Thank fuck for recycling, otherwise we'd drown in all the crap we throw away after we thought we wanted it. Thankfully digital stuff can sit on a hard drive unobtrusively until its used. Imagine all the boxed games and music circulating uselessly if digital downloads weren't with us. Scary.
I can see your point.

Right now, the list is something that agitates because it's still there. I want it cleared so I can calm the hell down and actually focus on playing rather than acquiring.
In 16 months, I've gone from 13 games, to 598. That's an average of 36.55 games a month, every month for the last 16.

It gets tiring, and costly, and more than a little time consuming.

CarrionCrow: Well, that or someone chained up in the closet who gets hooked to a leash when it's time for dish cleanup.

Either/or. ;)
avatar
Ixamyakxim: LOL even stranger that you said leash - I was going to add "by a collar" to my post but thought it was a bit too risques - thanks for making me feel better.
No worries there, I generally don't worry about risque unless I know it's someone who's going to get offended and I care about their feelings. -laughs-

So I just finished Driftmoon and raised the number of finished games this year to - believe it or not - TWO ;-)

;-)

Its hit that time of night when I burrow down inside myself and see what's going on. Its reassuring that my mind isn't always fixated on outward things, I think. I've got to the age where I know life can fly past and not be spent on things that are later viewed as being more important, so I try to see what my priorities should be and make the most of it all. Sometimes it feels good to verbalize that, and the people here are safe in that respect (which I hope is seen as a compliment) because they're sensitive, intelligent and worth knowing.

You see what dedication does? You should be proud of yourself ;-)

Too many. If I remember correctly the number I gave you some time ago was 261... eleven games added since that time and one finished... there is a long way to go :D

I know the feeling. You try to clear some, then you gear up and backslide. Gotta love seemingly Sisyphean efforts.

I do that frequently enough that I find myself running for more diversions and distractions. Hence the compulsive list analysis.

adaliabooks: The tracker thread is only 300 posts short of this one... damn that's a lot of conversation in a short time.
Rather it's much ado about nothing.

I feel classy now.

Speaking of such things - has anyone in here read or seen The Phantom Tollbooth?

Yep :D But to be honest I don't really mind my backlog. It will take years to finish it and perhaps I never will but I feel good about having the games which gives me the oppertunity to play them whenever I feel like it. And that is enough for me.
I think I'm wrapping it up for today folks.

Good night and good time.

That's a very positive outlook to have regarding it. =)
