That I'm not...him....bw..bw..bwaaaaaaaaagggghhhhh!!!!!
I can tell you this much. I've got a few hard games on my plate, but I'm not going and actively seeking them out.
Well, aside from maybe Dark Souls 2, but the Dark Souls series has quality to go with the difficulty.
After these are done, I'm damn sure not going out of my way to find more patience-destroying platformers, that's for sure. There's that indie game where you walk around on a colourful island and look at the sunsets and stars and walk and look and listen to the soundtrack and walk... I can't remember what its called, but it sounds like a perfect antidote to the kind of things that trip you up repeatedly and keep laughing when you're down.
Just found it: Proteus.
Was Anomaly Defenders right after Xenonauts, does anyone know?
Stilton: I really can't stand the frustration some of these things create. Impossible to finish without headbutting a door fifty times does not mean its an automatic classic. That's why I left the final 'Think your smart, huh? Try this then' levels of Scapegoat. It wouldn't take too much for anyone to create a scenario that's so difficult it makes you scream. I prefer to play for pleasure, amusement and the simple distraction of entering a world that appeals and rewards my efforts. I think of that German kid on YouTube smashing up his keyboard, and although he's an extreme case, to a certain kind of addictive/unmanageable psyche games that willfully punish can do harm to the person playing them in the form of anger outbursts and outright rage. LEGO Batman is about as frustrating as I want to go.
CarrionCrow: Definitely not, there has to be quality along with the difficulty. Otherwise, you get something like the American release of Battletoads, a game that's infamously difficult, but is totally unfair in how it creates that difficulty. I can tell you this much. I've got a few hard games on my plate, but I'm not going and actively seeking them out.

There, there, that's a common feeling. But don't beat yourself too hard over it. No one can be as awesome as lego Batman.
Console yourself with this.

Also, I just experienced the main reason why I play games that are excruciatingly difficult.
It's frigging awesome to finally beat something that's been kicking your ass all over the place.
I just cleared a Cotton Alley level. The 40 Cotton Alley levels are some of the very hardest in the game. I died at least 500 times on one level.
But I finally beat it.

Not really, they were quite common.
