EndreWhiteMane: Ongoing advice is this:
If anyone ever calls like that about anything. Computer, car, toaster or toothbrush.
Tell them you are busy and will need to call them back. Ask for a name, company name, phone and extension.
If they haven't hung up yet they will, or say something rude and then hang up. :-)

Endre, have you ever heard of a ISP actually contacting their clients about a virus problem on a private, unmonitored computer?

At most they'd send and e-mail, and that's only if the computer has been turned into a spam zombie.
As an ISP we used to call them if they were a mail customer and our server protection had detected a virus in their account. We sent emails to non-accounts that were spamming our servers.
Other than that, never.

CarrionCrow: Do you own Legend of Grimrock 1, by chance? And if not, would you be interested in it?
No, I don't have this game, and to be honest, it's not really one I'm interested in getting,
not that I think it is a bad game, the action style just doesn't appeal to me.

Did you make the deep sleep after the end of the first round?
And did you get all the wishlist games fulfilled?

By that, you mean:

That your server had detected that the outgoing mails the client was sendring via your smtp service were infected with viruses, virii... whatever?

By non accounts, you mean incoming infected mails from different servers/domains, and maybe blocked them from getting through in addition to notifying the sender?

Correct on both counts.

Okay, figured I'd ask. Actually managed to get my first freebie game right after I woke up, and it was that one.

And since I'm more than a little biased towards those who come to this thread, I'll end up asking everyone who doesn't have a GOGwiki page I can check if they'd like a copy.

I've actually slept twice since round one ended.
Definite upside to the staying awake for 3 days thing, I actually managed to clear everything in round one without a single missed item.

Still 150 on the wishlist, but I'll take another big chunk out of that during Summer if not sooner, depending on how my luck with sales runs between now and then.

You mentioned grabbing a game, what was the one you picked up?
Just did a full virus and malware scan...nothing. :D

From what I skimmed, it sounds like some scammer shitsack was trying to con you.

Everything they said to you was bullshit spewed in an attempt to get what they wanted.

You're OK, I'll stake my job on it.
Wait, I don't have one........
You're OK anyway. :-)

Well, thanks for offering, and I too share a (small yet significant bias) towards this thread's
regular and irregular inhabitants. I think we all have issues with sleep, regardless of sales,
my mind doesn't shut off, although I am able to control my dreams, almost completely at times.

Ah, I got Wasteland 2, if you might remember I called out the warning of 18 gigs of disc space.
Still amazed at that myself. This was the one game I was hoping would come up, and since I
got it early, I think that took the wind out of the sails for my excitement over the Insomnia sale. heh!

It was a scammer, don't think too hard about it.
Did he identify himself?
Did he say where the virus was coming from?

Like Endre said, only your ISP will be able to tell wether you have a virus, and that is only if you send spam/infected mails through their mail services.

I was tech support, although not a very good one.

Did you have to deal with any spam zombies?

We had some pretty strict server rules set up so spam was just a low level nightmare as it always is. There were exceptions that caused a lot of lost sleep but not many.
Bulk mail limits were very tight unless the customer contacted us to have them relaxed, Worked fairly well but as I said spam is always the #1 hassle with any mail server.
Fortunately I spent most of my time in the field designing and setting up networks so I had a different pain of my own. :-)

Did you get one of those calls, where they tell you they have to go into your computer to fix something?

It is definitely a scam.

This one call, they tried to tell me they were with Microsoft and that my computer was made by Microsoft because it was running Windows. Heh! I told them that I would report them to MS and then the guy threatened to shut down my computer, so I told him if he tried I would report them to the F.B.I. and I never heard from them again. ;)

edit... Oh wait, they were telling me they were with Windows, and I told them that Windows was made by Microsoft,
but they didn't know that.

Hi gentles and ladymen (now that sounds creepy...) how's the game accumulation therapy going?
