CarrionCrow: Not sure on the gifting situation overall. Haven't yet seen anyone confirm that locked items can go to people as gifts, either with Commandos or Hotline Miami 2.
avatar
ddickinson: I definitely have had my fill over the years. But hopefully it won't come to that. I'm hoping that as the vomiting seems to have stopped that that's a good sign.

I would think the answer to gifting is no. But hopefully we are able to do that, so at least the German users can trade for games they are missing, and maybe even the Australian users as well.
I have read that people said gifting is possible, but no real confirmation either. If Mortal Combat would still be banned I would have suggested a test on the weekend while I am in Germany but since it is not and I am not interested in Commandos we'll have to wait for some confirmation by other users.

EndreWhiteMane: I feel sorry for her, I hope she feels better very soon , the flu is awful. Glad she has someone to care for her.
Nah, I'm OK, just in a rotten mood since I found out the pills aren't really working and my blood pressure is quite high, mine usually runs low so this is disturbing. I'll see the doctor again on Tuesday and I'm sure we'll work it out.
Just kinda grumpy for real tonight. ;)

ddickinson: She will be okay, she may not be a farm girl, but she is definitely a tough one. She must be, she has put up with me for this long. :-)

I am sorry to hear the new pills are not working, and that you have to wait for so long to see the doctor again. But just remember that if there is anything we can do, short of wearing skimpy costumes :-), then feel free to say so.

*another big hug*
You may have solved my blood pressure issue. My dreams have been full of Farm-girl cheerleaders, Valkyrie nurses and French maids that resemble little owls. Tonight the uniforms will switch around and make whole new dreams.
I can feel my face getting red already. :-)

I'm sure we will find out soon. I don't think GOG will officially comment on it, as it could still be seen as illegal in Germany. At least it is only a few games, hopefully we won't see many more that are regionally blocked.

The thing that I find strange is that GOG must have known about this for a while, they could have at least given German users one last chance to get the games. Even if there was no sale on those games, it would have been nice for the to tell people and give them a few days.

What about a Valkyrie in a French maids outfit doing farm work? :-)

I still stand by the opinion that gog should not have done the German website if that means regionally blocked games. But it seems that financially this way is more benefitting for gog. But at least I can understand it.
But if they are also introducing the locking of gifts I'll be really disappointed. Since they would kill another aspect of what made gog special. The only thing left would be drm free and with an introduction of gift locking in addition to all the other changes over the last year I would not trust them anymore to keep even that last principle.

I agree, I would have rather had no German website, if it meant that German users have access to all the games. Someone mentioned to me that it was due to GOG getting bigger and being required to follow German legislation. Does Steam sell Commands games in Germany? If not, then maybe GOG was forced to follow German law.

GOG does seem eager to abandon it's principles lately. I think DRM-Free is safe, as if they changed to DRM they would have no selling point compared to Steam. Steam is a lot cheaper and has more games, so without DRM-Free, GOG would have nothing.

No steam is not selling them. But the problem is that all these laws are a bit messy and gog and steam probably would be able to sell them if they really wanted. But it would be too much work, it is easier to just ban the games. Steam has even banned a lot of the games that are on the index, since normally you need an age verification to buy them, since they are only allowed to be sold to adults. But on the other side I read that companies can sell them withouth age verification if they are located outside of Germany. I am not sure what is really true. And if a age verification is really needed then I am wondering why gog can still sell these games.
And honestly gog getting bigger is just a stupid argument. No matter how big a company is, the laws are still the same.

The problem is that GOG has to play by the same rules in the end. Whether or not the rules are stupid, they still have to play by them.

Some people seem to want GOG to go head-to-head legally with the different governments to make the changes, but I'm figuring that GOG's not exactly willing to spend years and who knows how much money fighting these battles.

In the end, their principles will lose every time versus the legality of it all. The people who run GOG aren't going to torch everything they've built to make a comparatively very small statement.

That is true. At the moment I am just not sure if they really spend time looking clearly into the laws. There are too many unanswered questions. But you are right there is no meaning for gog to go into battles with laws that are there. That is not their job, it is a problem of the different countries. The only thing I wish for is that gog has someone with knowledge really look into the laws and not do their business by common standards other companies are using since these are often more restricted than the laws really require.
