CarrionCrow: I'm figuring the swastikas are the reason. Have heard it mentioned before, and it's a WW2 game so there's probably some imagery that the government finds disagreeable.
Still idiotic, though. It's not like they're going to eradicate the image from the minds of every citizen by banning something that shows it.
The reason is that it is forbidden to show them outside of documentary purpose. That is why normally the games which have them get a censored German version.

avatar
moonshineshadow: Hmm... that is hard to answer. Since I am normally reading mostly fantasy books. That is why I do not really have a clue where I could start reading classics.
avatar
ddickinson: I recently enjoyed a book called Phantastes by George MacDonald. It is considered one of the cornerstones of Fantasy literature, and is credited for helping to inspire authors such as Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.

I will have a look at my books tomorrow to make some more personal reconsiderations, but in the mean time, here is a list of some Fantasy classics listed on GoodReads.

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2365
Thanks I'll have a look at it :-)

Oh my DD, that's some classy quoting. Unfortunately my head is kind of pounding so I will retire for tonight. But I will leave you with another quote.

"Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup." Anon

Have fun boys and girls.

ddickinson: Sometimes the difficulty comes from the difference in language, or a poor translation.

The Illiad is a wonderful book, one of my childhood favourites. The Odyssey is good as well, they are both good example of classic Greek epics. If you do get The Illiad, see about the Richard Lattimore translation.

How do you pick/find new books to read? Have you ever used Goodreads.com?
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that if I do pick it up :)

Pretty randomly to be honest, hence often being stung by buying awful books... I tend to just read the blurb on the back and get whatever sounds appealing to me. Or if I've heard good things about a book or author I'll pick up some of their stuff.

To be honest in the past I've largely tended to buy books by authors I know and just re read them a lot... but a lot of the authors I read have finished their series, decreased in quality or otherwise stopped writing...

avatar
adaliabooks: Not sure what went wrong.. it was the right tag, and worked in my Barefoot Essentials preview but some of the characters I copied must have broken it...
avatar
ddickinson: You have to put a new set of tags for each line-break (when you press enter). I'm not sure if this is a bug or how it has always been.
Ah, that will be the problem. I don't use bold or italics enough to know this... :)
avatar
CarrionCrow: It'd make more sense if I was dreaming that the characters from bad games were in the house.
Then it burning to the ground would be totally logical, since it'd be me doing it to protect the world from the garbage. -laughs-

The flu is always unpleasant. Are they improving yet, or is it still in the having to suffer through it stage?

But that dream would be too logical for your brain. Remember that this is the same mind that makes you keep playing those games. It clearly likes torturing you. :-)

The flu is quite bad at the moment, bad enough to need a course of antibiotics. Hopefully it is at it's peak now and will be getting better, if not she could have to go into hospital.

Can we still gift these games to the German members, or is that also banned?

moonshineshadow: Thanks I'll have a look at it :-)
I will have a closer look at my own books tomorrow for some more recommendations. What kind of fantasy do you enjoy?

Also, I just remembered that the fantasy book The Never Ending Story was written by a German author. I liked that book when I was younger.

Goodreads isn't perfect, but it's not bad. You list the books you have read or want to read, and it gives you recommendations based on your tastes. It's not a bad place to find obscure book you might have never heard of before.

You shouldn't get me started on quoting things... I could be here all night XD

Pretty much anything by Douglas Adams is either hilarious or insightful, but I like this one:

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all - Douglas Adams

I'll have a look at it again, but I'm fairly sure I've stumbled across it before and not liked it for some reason (but then I can be pretty random in taking against things)...

Yes that is really a nice book, I also liked it as child. And I am pretty open to many fantasy books, the only thing I do not really like is when the fantasy mixes with the nowaways real world :-)

I don't use it that often, as it's not always that helpful. But there are plenty of user created lists, which sometimes have some little known gems on them.

I know the kind of books you mean. I will try to get time tomorrow to dig out a few books and make a list of suggestions for you. Also, I forgot the *hello hug*. :-)

Is that The Never Ending Story, or a realistic description of how similar most Hollywood movies are these days? :-)

How are you doing tonight? I hope you are feeling okay? *big hug*

Pretty much the same thing. ;)
I'll rate how I feel as 'fair' tonight, better than awful anyway. ;)
Give your partner a big PFFFFTTTTT!!! on her forehead, she'll be better in no time. (Or smack you stupid) :-)

Edit: Moon, aufheitern! I'm trying to. :-)

Fair is better than awful, but not quite as good as it could be. Is there anything we can do to help make you feel better?

I don't think my partner would even wake up if I did that, she is pretty sleepy today, partly due to the flu and also the antibiotics. At least the vomiting has stopped now, as that was worrying.

*big comforting cuddle*

I feel sorry for her, I hope she feels better very soon , the flu is awful. Glad she has someone to care for her.
Nah, I'm OK, just in a rotten mood since I found out the pills aren't really working and my blood pressure is quite high, mine usually runs low so this is disturbing. I'll see the doctor again on Tuesday and I'm sure we'll work it out.
Just kinda grumpy for real tonight. ;)

You have a point.

Will hope that they don't have to stay at the hospital. I'm sure you've had more than enough of loved ones being stuck in there.

Not sure on the gifting situation overall. Haven't yet seen anyone confirm that locked items can go to people as gifts, either with Commandos or Hotline Miami 2.

She will be okay, she may not be a farm girl, but she is definitely a tough one. She must be, she has put up with me for this long. :-)

I am sorry to hear the new pills are not working, and that you have to wait for so long to see the doctor again. But just remember that if there is anything we can do, short of wearing skimpy costumes :-), then feel free to say so.

*another big hug*

I definitely have had my fill over the years. But hopefully it won't come to that. I'm hoping that as the vomiting seems to have stopped that that's a good sign.

I would think the answer to gifting is no. But hopefully we are able to do that, so at least the German users can trade for games they are missing, and maybe even the Australian users as well.
