CarrionCrow: If they're trying for a more serious, realistic tone, it sounds like they've flubbed a bit.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't ever a sequel. Big pitfall of people who want to put out segmented games - they don't always get finished, for whatever reason.

Hell, THQ screwed up on that one, so an independent developer's chances of failure would be even higher.

If it's any consolation, I have the game on my list. Whenever I can get it at a good price, I'll be picking it up also.

And no, you're not the only one that happens to, by any means. It's happened to me more than once, despite my best efforts to have a handle on what I actually own.

ddickinson: The game could be good, it needs some more polish and some importations, but it could have been a good game, the story is quite intriguing. I have a feeling it is very short, which would be another let down. If the developer wants to charge such a high price for this, then he could at least include the second part for free as an incentive. But that won't happen, like you said, it probably won't even get made.

avatar
tinyE: EVERY DAY! :P
avatar
ddickinson: Well at least I know it's not just me. :-)

I have Ether One on my shelf and I have no idea when I bought it.
I would be shocked if that sequel gets made.

Reviews across the board put it as average at best, and terrible at worst.

Also, the Twitter account for the game hasn't been active since nearly a year ago.
Sounds like product abandonment to me.

There should be a purchase date on there.

EndreWhiteMane: Morning all, glad most of you are doing well today.
27 degrees F here, woohoo!
Moon, what's the matter today my lovely Valkyrie?
Need a great big PHFFFFFFFTTTTTTT! ?
avatar
CarrionCrow: Good morning. =)

I think my right thumb is harboring thoughts of amputating itself to get out of our abusive relationship, but otherwise I can't complain.

It sounds downright balmy where you are, maybe you'll get to go to the beach after all. =)
Easy on that thumb! ;)
Yes, 27 is quite nice, though it is snowing now. I'll take it over below zero though.

It doesn't sound too bad. At least it's a little warmer for you today, hopefully you won't get turned into an Endre Popsicle. :-)

I agree, but it's no real loss judging by the game so far. I think it's okay for what it is, but it's over-pricing and over-selling itself as something incredible.

There's always one smarty pants isn't there. :-)

Thank you. It seems I bought it on Nov 15, 2014. But still, I have no memory of buying it, I must have, but I can't remember doing so. I assume someone talked me into it and told me it was a good game. I will have to give it a go and find out sometime.

Trying to be, but it's not easy when I'm playing Meat Boy for hours.

Need to split that up with more Valkyria Chronicles, give the digits a break.

Have actually gotten into that one a bit, and it's pretty interesting so far.
Granted, I'm on chapter 2, so the whole thing could go horribly, horribly wrong well before the end, but right now the art style is great, the graphics themselves look really good, the voice acting is actually good enough that I don't want to icepick my eardrums, and the gameplay is a bit of a mix between real-time and turn-based.

You get so many moves per turn, but you can use them however you want. If you want to use the same character three times, you can.
But the downside to that is, for every move, you have an energy meter. It's not just a matter of placing units like chess pieces. When you start moving, it's you running in real-time, looking for cover, trying to get a better angle on enemies, and they're totally shooting at you while you do so.

Nearly got the protagonist minced into luncheon meat having him run past a tank. Whoops.

So...yeah. My much belated first impressions? It's looking like a really good game. =)

It could be, it's not a game I would buy at full price, so it was probably during the Winter sale. I wonder who talked me into buying it...

Sounds like it. You can get some pretty incredible games here for 10 dollars or less. Developers with mediocre to bad products look silly when they try to ask for a similar amount.

I've had that on my wishlist for some time now, have to keep an eye out for a sale.
Those 'unexpected bills' I just got are in excess of $3000.00 so only really great sales will stand a chance for some time to come. :-)

What I find strange about them, is that on GOG at least, these indie games that are over priced only seem to have 50% sales on them. While over on a bundle site you can get them for just a few pence (or rather cent) when you factor in the other games you get in the bundle for the price.

So far the three walking simulator type games I have played recently have all been from bundles, as I feel their prices here are too hight. They are Lifeless Planet, Mind: Path to Thalamus, and Montagues Mount. The only one I liked was Lifeless Planet, but that still does not mean it's worth the asking price.

November 15 would have been the fall sale... The person who talked you into buying it could have been ... Or perhaps [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/2014_drmfree_big_fall_sale_tracker_thread/post911]vanchann...

You're certainly right... But I'm still a caffeine zombie anyway :-D (but well rested) !

I have a feeling it was someone in the real world, or over PM. I guess I could stop being lazy and check all my PMs, but I prefer to keep it a mystery (and I'm lazy :-))

I am doing very well, thank you. I am at work today, but there is little to do indoors so I am playing another dull game. I think Crow has infected me with his habit of playing dull games. :-)

Great ! What dull game is it ?... (sorry if you mentioned it earlier, I didn't read all the posts I missed... !) :-/

Holy shit.

I can see why you were in shock. I get annoyed/angry/upset being blindsided by a 20 dollar expense.

Not sure on why some independent games don't get major discounts on GOG.

Maybe they're trying to make some kind of revenue through here since they can't be getting very much putting their stuff out in 10-for-a-dollar bundles.
