Are there any games from the current batch of new releases that catches your eye?

Also, *big hello hug*

Stilton: Too much of that one will drive you mad.

Update - Hand of Fate looks kind of interesting...

How many other board/card-type games are out there? Its a format I could maybe get into...
Indeed. Kinda hard to maintain high levels of sanity in an ultimately insane world.

Depends on what you're looking for, along with whether or not you're willing to rent games from the competition.
If not, that cuts down the selection quite a bit.

Not really. I do not play strategy games very often. And when I do, I tend to stick to games of series I liked. At the moment I play Pharao. So I don't think that I will start an unknow series in the near future. So nothing of interest to me from Paradox.
With one exception. I saw that they are the publisher of Magicka. It they would release that when gog galaxy releases it would be so much fun. Single player is really boring but in multiplayer it becomes really fun.

I just had a look at Magicka and it looks very good, and the Norse Mythology has always been interesting to me. There are no games for me in this batch of releases, but I hope the others will find some fun games.

I am trying to not buy any games this year, unless it's a game I am going to play straight away (recently I bought F.E.A.R. so that I can play it with my brother, as we enjoy playing FPS games together). I am hoping to get my backlog down a bit before I add more games. I recently just started playing Mind: Path to Thalamus, but I have only played it for about 30 minutes so far as I got distracted with something non-game related. But I should have it finished this week and I can move on to the next on my list.

ddickinson: Everyone gets hugs, whether they want them or not. :-)
Well, I've never posted in this thread before (AFAIK), but I could use a hug. If you have any left, could you send one my way? Unfortunately I don't have anyone in my immediate surroundings right now who can offer me one.

As for the reason why, that's a long and boring story, but I'll take what I can get. :-)

Also, you guys are weird. I like that.

*big hug* welcome to our hug group :D
If you want to talk about the stuff go on and do it. We don't mind and will try to help you with listening and virtual hugs ;-)

It doesn't matter if you have posted here before or not, and there is no harm in giving virtual hugs to those who want them. It's the custom of this thread to offer hugs, especially when people are in need of a good hug. And as moon said, feel free to talk about what you like in this thread, as long as you are polite and friendly, then nothing is off topic.

*Welcome virtual hug*

As for us being weird, well I would challenge you to find someone who is not weird here on the GOG forum. :-)

The only game I have bought this year is Grim Fandango to backup my disk since my old computer where I can run it is giving me some problems. My backlog is huge and I would like to reduce it a bit. So only buying games here if they are of real interest or if I need them for the mentionend backup.

Hi ddickinson! (Can I opt out of the hug?)
I saw the Paradox releases too and I find them AWESOME! Even more then Lucas Arts and WB! I'm a huge history buff and thus would love to get all the historical strategy games-but I can't, as that'd be way too expensive! Judas recommended to me over in the release thread Crusader Kings, so I'll be definitely getting that one, but I'm thinking of getting a second game too-I'm between Europa Universalis and Victoria (Hearts of Iron, which also interests me, is too expensive for my budget atm).
An other thing I noticed- the screenshots focus a lot at Greece (in Victoria for example, at least half of them show Greece, and a couple of them include also the place where I come from-which wasn't part of Greece in the 19th century, but rather part of the Ottoman empire). I wonder if that focus is on purpose...So, even if that isn't on purpose this might-unreasonably-get me to buy Victoria-I'll think about it anyways...
P.S.Here is one of them screenshots-let's see if you can guess where I'm from ;).

Strictly buy-to-own-DRM-free-I'll-play-it-on-my-own-terms-because-I bought-the-thing-type games....

I end up getting distracted a lot while playing games, especially if I am also reading a good book at the same time. I will end up leaving the game to go read some more of the book. Plus I have been working so much since Christmas that with the little free time I had I spent it doing more important things, and reading some more books. Luckily I am now getting a bit more free time so I can start enjoying some games.

Opting out of hugs in this thread? Well the short answer is no. The long answer is nooooooooo. :-)
*hugs*

I'm glad you like the look of the games. History is my number one passion, and the games do look nice, but for the moment they are not high enough on my list for me to pick them up. Maybe once I have played some of the games I already own then I might pick them up when on sale again. Probably during the next Winter sale.

As for guessing where you are from, using the names on the screenshot. I will go with Naxos?

Thanks. :-)

And moonshine and dickinson too. I feel a little better now, and your quick response is not something I take for granted. I don't really feel like talking about my problems right now, but if you ever need someone to return the favor, I'm told I'm a good listener.

I hope everyone has a pleasant day.
Looking through the new games...
I've never really played grand strategy games. I've mostly been into small-scale strategy games.
If I were to ever give it a try, what game(s) would be best for a newbie like me?
