I recently played Brothers A Tale of Two Sons, and that had some really lovely scenery. In fact some of the nicest I have seen in a game, with lots of variation. So Ori is not that good, just another overly hyped game?

j0ekerr: Good moaning and good night.
I'm a little tired, and waiting to be summoned, which can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour.
What'd I miss?
CarrionCrow: Good evening. =) I'm a little tired, and waiting to be summoned, which can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour.

Salewise, not a whole lot. Pleasant surprise that a game I figured was Uplay-only showed up here, but that's about it.
Which one was that?

ddickinson: Good evening!
No update for Defenders Quest yet, but the update is there (I already downloaded it).
Good evening *big hug* No update for Defenders Quest yet, but the update is there (I already downloaded it).
Noticed that only because i saw the respective thread...that's why i was wondering if it's just eccentric behaviour from GOG or a general oversight concerning the update notification. Downloading now :)
And i'm happy to see the Linux also being here :)

Uplay only? Salewise, not a whole lot. Pleasant surprise that a game I figured was Uplay-only showed up here, but that's about it.
j0ekerr: Oh yeah, that game that wanta to be a studio Ghibli movie.
It's an average platformer. If I want scenery porn, Trine is more my speed.
And it's a better game overall.
So you wouldn't recommend it? It's an average platformer. If I want scenery porn, Trine is more my speed.
And it's a better game overall.
Sorry for the hijacking. Owning that particular game i still haven't played it. The scenery aside - did you enjoy it?

ddickinson: Fair enough, I would get in trouble using them on a person anyway. :-)
I was surprised Ori had no launch discount, given it has been out for some time already. It looks nice, but the specs are too high for me. Dex looks nice, I just need to go over it again and make sure I still want it, as when I first saw it it was a while ago on Humble and I was waiting to see if it came here, so I can't fully remember it properly.
Thank you for the answer.
-laughs- Probably for the best that the whole thing's avoided then. I was surprised Ori had no launch discount, given it has been out for some time already. Understandable, odds are low I could get it to work on my computer either.
From what I recall, Dex wasn't bad, it just wasn't compelling enough to keep me from getting distracted.
Not a problem. =)
Ah, I know why. Must've been thinking of something else. Could've sworn I saw that Ori and the Blind Forest was a Uplay game originally.

I just saw the trailer for the Gwent beta.
I just... I can't even say that I dislike Hearthstone because I have never even tried it. I haven't just been weeaned off card games, I've been inoculated, immunized and I think I've even developed an allergy to them. What I do know is that I can't muster the interest to try it, free or not, spending 5 minutes downloading it seems like too much effort for something I might or might not like, (but which I suspect will make me want to murderrape someone).
So all these card games... they just... I don't even...
Let's move on, shall we?

I have never understood why Mac gets so many games and Linux not. I always thought Linux had more users and more gamer users, so why favour Mac over Linux? Is Linux generally harder to make games for due to how it handles things? No need to be sorry. I really enjoyed the game. It was short, but really lovely. It needs a controller, I think it does support keyboard, but I have no idea how that would work properly. The areas are nice, the puzzle mechanics are not too hard, and the story, while sad, was great as well. It has a kind of fantasy setting, so expect some lovely fantasy scenes. :-) I had only two problems with the game, and they were minor. The first is the length. The game is quite short, not too short (providing you take your time, I imagine a speed run could be short). I wanted more of the game, to explore some of the areas more than you get to, to just play more of the lovely game. My second problem was not a big problem, just something that spoiled the story a tiny bit, and that was an event towards the end of the game. It does not spoilt it in any big way, but it took away a part of the game that happened earlier, and I don't know, it just was a bit meh for me (if you get around to playing and finishing the game I will tell you more). But overall I really liked the game, and one that I would get on GOG to have for myself if it ever comes here. I am not sure it is worth the full price given the length and the limited re=playability, but on sale I would get it for sure on here.

-laughs- It works for me. Better CDPR get the money than Blizzard. At least CDPR is making Cyberpunk, a game I actually truly want to see come out.I just... I know my computer is way out of date, so what is too high for me is not for many people, but the specs for some games seem very high given other games. I could understand if it was a cutting edge 3D game like Witcher 3, but for platformer games? Understandable, odds are low I could get it to work on my computer either.

Well I do remember it was not a "WOW I must own this game straight away" kind of game, just one that I liked the look of. It is nice that it comes with the DLC and all those extras. Those are a rarity these days from developers. Usually we get a wallpaper and an avatar, which we could get on Google image for free anyway. :-)

Hurm, yes, Brothers was gorgeous, specially that tree towards the end, after the older brother... You fiend, you made me remember...
Hurm I wouldn't say they're less than. They're different though. I remember Brothers having an almost claymation style, very cartoony. This one is cartoony as well but it's a Ghibli cartoon, (and if you don't know what Ghibli is, what are you doing not watching both Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. And when you have the time, watch Porco Rosso as well, it's a weird but beautiful movie) with gorgeous magical forests.
Yet as far as beautiful backgrounds go. I think Trine is the more beautiful of all three.
——————
I just got summoned and proceeded to murderrape the toothy vagina monster, or gaping dragon. Damn bastard almost got me twice with lag. Both cases I was far away but the game still registered a hit.

The system requirements keep rising. Thinking that will continue happening until there's a lull in hardware development. It's a re-release. Figuring they made coin on the usual scheme first, then decided to package it all together for the second time of selling the game.

Well i guess one thing is that GOG added Mac support earlier than Linux support which is why some contract probably need to be renegotiated and also that some developers just rely on the steam architecture to make Linux version and are too lazy to make a proper DRM-free linux version. A DRM-Free Version. For. A Plucking. Free Platform. >:( No need to be sorry. I really enjoyed the game. It was short, but really lovely. Well i heard that the playerbase on Mac and Linux is comparable (something around 1%...darn M$) and it shouldn't be too different getting games to linux considering it's also unix-based like Mac. And especially when using something like Unity it should be very easy to port games to Linux. The Thea devs did something interesting: They admitted that they had no experience with Linux whatsoever they ported it via Unity nonetheless and releases for free as an unsupported version which apparently works quite decent :)
Thanks. That sounds good. That game would fit into the GOG catalogue quite well - i hope we'll see it here eventually.

I also kind of think it is developers being lazy about optimising code. :-) It's a re-release. Figuring they made coin on the usual scheme first, then decided to package it all together for the second time of selling the game.
I thought that as well, and it is a nice gesture.
