CarrionCrow: I was stupid enough to pay full price for base Skyrim. Comparatively, you've got a LOT to feel proud about. =)
avatar
j0ekerr: On the subject of Skyrim and DLC we were discussing. How incomplete would you say my gaming experience of that game would be without DragonBorn and Dawnguard?
Um....not at all? From what I've seen it's add-ons for content. Base Skyrim has content oozing out of its eyeholes. That's not Skyrim's problem.
avatar
CarrionCrow: Hell, they could put out an updated version of Secret of Mana to go with Seiken Densetsu 3. That'd be a very nice combo pack.
Too bad that probability is saying we'll get FF15 or FF 10-3 (just vomited in my mouth a little typing that....seriously....) before we get those things.
avatar
adaliabooks: Lol. I know they'll be shit, but I do want to try FF13 and the sequels and whatever non MMO games they release..

I never really liked Secret of Mana... I tried so many times to get into it but couldn't. I have no idea why it didn't appeal. Possibly because it lacked a job / class system (you may be seeing a pattern, I love job systems im JRPGs. That's why I loved FF Tactics Advance so much)
Better you than me....I played 13, beat 13 (after 13 froze up during one of its MANY MANY MANY cutscenes and managed to wipe out my 360 hard drive). Bought 13-2 because I hate myself, started to play it, said, " Oh hellllllllll no" and shut it off.
It now mocks me from its place on the shelf in the corner.

FoxySage: Don't forget about Final Fantasy Tactics

adaliabooks: I've only played the GBA and DS ones, but even though they are a bit childish I love them (loads of jobs and skills! My favourite :) )
I only know FFT from watching this let's play of it. Though seems quite enjoyable.

penumbren: Ever try four White Mages? *eg*
That sounds like the kind of crazy thing i'd try out just to see if i could do it. *laughs*

In that case, I think I will just tell the legendary edition to do unspeakable things to itself and bu...rent the vanilla version.

Out of curiosity, what is its biggest problem? Aside from it's clunky FPP combat system?

No consequences to anything.
Choices don't matter. (You can kill the emperor while working for the empire and noone gives a rat's ass on any side. You can work for every evil entity in the game, committing murders, ritually sacrificing your buddies, and it means nothing.)
It ends up being one incredibly samey cave exploration after another after another after another.
The towns have no feeling of life to them, just the same recycled crap.
Dragons lose novelty after you're so powered up that you can kill two or three at a time without breaking a sweat.
You'll spend dozens of hours doing nothing but organizing inventory, which is made worse by the inventory system being a pile of shit.

That's what comes to mind right off the bat.

FF Tactics is very different from the portable ones. The storyline is much more serious and I think longer, although to be honest, I have terrible luck with all of the Tactics games and have never beaten any of them. They tend to get lost, misplaced, or have bad things happen to saves. I think I'm just not really meant to play them, which is a shame because I really like them.

It's quite a challenge, and it's just about the most coin-grinding you'll ever do in an RPG. White Mages in FF can actually fight and do decent damage, but only "decent," compared to, say, "amazing," and their armor ALWAYS sucks. I suspect four Black Mages would be more expensive only because you'd have to keep stocked on potions at all times; with White Mages, you can let that go somewhat.

4 thieves. No healing, no attack spells, low-average melee damage, low-average armor, and all they can do is run. Sometimes.

Right up until the class change. Then? Four ninjas. Can wield almost any weapon, learn magic, and kick all kinds of ass.

Lots of potions, but still. With that much damage-dealing, you wouldn't need that many.

ETA: Whoops. Corrected the link.

If you can keep your sanity until the rat tail saves you. -laughs-

The rat tail. Heheheh. I laugh every time the tail collector shows up in the games... I wish they'd bring him back. They keep giving us every other sort of random fetch quest - he'd fit right in.

Amusing sidenote: I'm actually wearing my 8BT Black Mage t-shirt at the moment... appropriately enough.

That kinda sums up why I couldn't get into the game. I think I gave it a fair chance (20 hours,) but I just couldn't get into it.
To me, it felt like the whole world just lacked heart and soul. Everything seemed samey, and it just didn't feel very "alive" to me.
This doesn't make any sense, but I'm going to say it anyway - I felt like I was playing a video game that was made by developers. I don't like that feeling.
I'm sitting here in my robe with a space heater on my feet shivering uncontrollably, which probably isn't good.
You guys lost me about an hour ago with your way over my head rpg talk so I think I'll retire to my nice warm bed for while. See ya all a bit later. ;)
Well it's past midnight, which makes it finally the 22nd and that means two things.

One: The 22nd is, for me at least, the starting pistol shot for Christmas, it's the day of the traditional christmas lottery, which is kind of a very big deal, and the first christmas event of importance.

Which means that in the spirit of giving I'll be doing a small giveaway myself, check the thread and spread the word.

Two: The 22nd is also the final date of the stealth sales in xbox llive (seriously, if I hadn't checked major nelson's blog, I wouldn't know they're having a sale at all). And the last day Dark Souls 2 will be half price.

Which means... decisions, decisions...

You're reminding me that I need to play more FF games....
Also, good taste in clothes. =) If such items are available, one with the black mage on it is a must.

That's a very good way of putting it - soulless. They had big ambitions, but ended up with a transparent simulation.

No, I'd say that's actually rather unpleasant rather than good.
Get some sleep, get to feeling better. =)

No clue about what kind of lottery you're speaking of.
Giveaways are always appreciated. Sure you'll make someone happy for their end of the year what-not. =)
As for Dark Souls 2....would say do console if you think the machine will hold up and not fall apart on you or something before you can finish.
If you get it for PC and can't run it, then your coin's been burned with nothing to show for it til you get an upgrade.
