budejovice: I also just caught this. That's sad, ddickinson. :( *hugs even though I'm with some of the other folks re: hugs*
ddickinson: Thank you. You don't like hugs? Is that just guy hugs or hugs in general? *return hug*
I'm pretty close to adaliabooks and HypersomniacLive in that even digital hugs are kinda awkward, for whatever reason.
*nods at adalia & HSL from across the room*
I'm not a very touchy-feely kinda guy. IRL I do hug at times, but I'm not much of a hug initiator. I hug dudes, mostly close friends that I haven't seen in a long time. I guess perhaps I'm more receptive to girl hugs irl, but I still better know them. Someone that I just met an hour before hugged me recently and my pulling away was so noticeable it was probably rude. Not the intention, but oh well.
(I don't think this stems from anything traumatic in my past.)

Ooh, synthesis of drug discussion!
I have a generally bad sense of smell, due to smoking. But I can pick some smells out long before others. Meat or veggies that have gone bad. Toast. I eat toast, but can't stand the smell for some reason.
And methamphetamine! I can smell a tiny baggie of only residue inside a dumpster from half a block away. I grew up with that smell!
Punchline: my dad is a forensic chemist and ran a crime lab in the 80s & 90s. North Texas was ground zero for US amphetamine synthesis in the 80s (the biker method) and my dad wound up busting a lot of labs. He would always show up REEKING of phenylacetone, a key precursor. So much so that I can pick the smell out with ease all these decades later. :)
