I've been reading a bit. Apparently the console's hardware design was hopelessly outdated from the start. It was a powerful sprite processing machine for 2D gaming, in a time when 3D appeared as inevitable and inminent, with Starfox and Virtua Racing as its spearheads. Even worse, its 2D power came at the cost of complexity, which made programming even traditional 2D games rather tricky.
So basically, Atari's engineers shot themselves in both feet, then unloaded the rest of the bullets on their groins just for fun.
So basically a console dead on arrival...fantastic.

It would be cool to get some Gearbox games here. I'd hope we get the Brothers in Arms games. Despite being consoley messes, they are nice games.
