LaPtiteBete: Does somebody have an opinion about DEVIL'S DARE ?
I'm curious about the FIST PUNCHER game you've already told about ; I just can't remember if these were good or bad words :-D
Lol... Jack Keane n__n.
I just finished off Fist Puncher a couple days ago.

Review for it here if you'd like to read it.

CarrionCrow: I honestly don't know the details of tax laws by country, but it wouldn't surprise me that certain independents use the whole thing as a way to justify charging more for items.
It's a screwed up system and the market is overflowing with product. The phrase "unsustainable business model" is popping into my head.
avatar
ddickinson: As I said, I have no problem with them charging the VAT/tax they need to. But it should be fair to everyone, across the board. Why should Russia get games cheap, just because they pirate more (which is a really strange thing to reward them for)? Why should the US not pay tax, just because they will complain and developers would lose sales? Why should the UK and Germany get screwed over paying more than other countries with similar or higher rates of VAT/tax?

If you honestly have to charge tax, then why is it not done fair and to every country? Why can these developers give some countries games tax-free, while others have to pay. There is no justified reason, it's just greed and manipulation.

ddickinson: Sadly I can offer no opinions about the games. But if Fist Puncher appeals to you, then I have a code you can have. I'm sure Hyper will be upset (well, so upset he will jump for joy), that I gave you the code, but I think he will get over it. :-)

AgentBirdnest: Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.

Good to hear that some of you are doing well.
I hope you get some good rest, moon.
You too, little owl, even though you say you are "fine". ( Love your drawing, by the way :-) )

ddickinson: Good morning, Agent! Or should that be Mr Truman? :-)

How are you doing today? I hope you are well?
I think the prices should be in tune with general incomes, not how much people want to swipe stuff.
People who swipe stuff will continue doing so regardless. When you've got free, cheaper prices are still more than what they'd be paying.

I feel so good today that I'm not even sure I am alive... A rare feeling for me...

Glad to hear you are doing well :-)

That's what I never understood about the price situation in Russia. Those who pirate games will keep doing so. They won't start paying for them just because they are cheaper. Many people who pirate seem to see nothing wrong with doing so, I read someone on the GOG forum argue that it should be free as it's on the internet and everything on the internet should be free.

It would be interesting to know if the low prices have helped stop piracy of games in Russia. But then what message does that send out. Should the UK or US start mass pirating so that we get games that are cheap? It seems to say that if you pirate games, we will let you buy them cheaper.

Ah yes, I forgot Truman was his first name.

I'm so please to hear you are feeling good today. Is this due to you spending some quality time with your friend recently?

It's ultimately bullshit stacked on top of more bullshit.

The whole Russian thing, when you think about it? Consider all the companies who say that piracy is screwing up their bottom line.
If companies start saying that low prices make no difference, they'd be admitting that their entire basis, their whole setup of using piracy as an excuse for shitty games having poor sales and them stacking on more DRM would have to go out the window.

So they'll just keep on bullshitting, both themselves and everyone else, instead.

But with any luck, this bullshitting will not last for long. I mean look at GOG and the recent big names coming here. True they are old games, nothing brand new. But this is a good start. Perhaps slowly, we can start to re-establish that DRM is worthless, that games are still pirated, and that customers are hopefully getting smart enough to want to actually own their games again.

But sadly I fear the bullshit will be here for many years. Whether that be DRM, regional pricing, DLCs, micro-transactions. I just wish people would stop throwing money at all this crap. That's why companies keep doing it. That's why DRM and all the other horrible stuff picked up and is still here. Because people have too much money and too little sense. And of course I am not meaning this and an insult to people who use Steam. But I would bet that the majority who use Steam would prefer their games to be DRM free, to be complete games, not chopped up for DLCs. Many use Steam because they have no other choice. Because gamers bought into the whole Steam crap and now that's the cornerstone of PC gaming.

Humans for the most part are not meant to be alone. We are social creatures. Even people who say they are loners, would change their mind if they met people they get on with. It's surprising how much difference another person can make to how we feel. I hope things keep going amazing for you and that you keep having a great time with your friends.

Hmm. Just read that Sega is down over one hundred million dollars for the year.
Now wondering if what's left of the old Nintendo/Sega console war will finally end.

Until the competition crashes, everything you just mentioned will continue to be around.
And even when they do, the micro-transaction side of things will be around because of how much the mobile market is inundated with it.

It's almost enough to make a person want to buy several hundred GOG games, a really nice stockpile, then ride it out and essentially step out of the entire cash-related side of playing video games.

I thought that was what all you game hoarders on GOG were doing? Building up your collection of DRM free games and getting ready for Armageddon? :-)
Speaking of mobile games... Amazon are giving away a batch of games and apps again. Mostly apps on the UK site but I think it's usually different on the American one. Picked up a few music related ones and a game which as far as I remember is based on a choose your own adventure book.

Just thought I'd let you guys know in case anyone's interested :)

Nah, I got tired of waiting for Armageddon. Ever since I made bean dip and bought party hats for the Y2K thing, I don't get all excited for apocalypse like I used to. ;)

It is nice to know that if my games budget dries up for a couple years, I'll still have plenty to play, though.

Additional - It is NEVER a good sign when a game based around time limits gives you a full minute to complete a level.
It's like they're saying, "You're going to be dead long before the time limit ever becomes an issue, so what the hell."

And you always have Soulstorm to help pass the time, should all your other games get boring. :-)

I just bought my first game of the year to add to my collection, which makes me feel all dirty. I already have too many games and not enough time to play them, so why do I buy more? :-)

Soulstorm's a no-go. It's dead at this point. When a game's dead, it doesn't get played anymore. Ever.

I like putting games on the dead pile. =)
