adaliabooks: Morning all. How is everyone?

Had to be up early to go to the vets, just the usual problems he's been having, nothing new.

Got to do some prep for tomorrow later but otherwise a quiet day here.
avatar
ddickinson: Good morning, adaliabooks!

Sorry to hear you had to go to the vets. I hope your vet is at least polite. I have seen some vets with no matters whatsoever.

avatar
LaPtiteBete: Great for your afternoon off work !! :D
But you'll be busy cooking for your Valentine's evening, won't you ?
avatar
ddickinson: Some of it will be. Me and my partner are helping my dad prepare a nice surprise meal for my mum, so I will be distracting her while my partner helps my dad cook the meal. But then later my partner and I will be doing some cooking for our own romantic evening meal at home. I'm not sure what we are cooking yet, but I'm sure it will be tasty.

avatar
CarrionCrow: Quiet here overall. Played until I started losing feeling in a couple fingers. At that point it was time to take a break. -laughs-
avatar
ddickinson: I had that this morning, but mine was due to the cold and wet, not from playing games for too long. :-)

The weekend sale starts in a few minutes. I wonder what we will have this week?
Looks like the best part of everything just posted is that the Guilty Gear games are back.

Aside from that? Not so much, interest-wise. -laughs-
avatar
adaliabooks: We've got a really good vet now, but our last one was rubbish. Didn't give a shit and just used to fob us off any time we came in. That's why we changed to our current vets and they are great.
I know how that is with vets, farm vets can be just as bad, especially with trying to sell treatments that won't even help. Some will do anything for money and will make you feel like you are wasting their time. It annoys me when they try to trick us into paying for extra stuff. My family as been farmers since forever, we know a thing or two about animals to not fall for their cheap tricks. Luckily most of the vets we have are great, but there are a few who are just horrible.

I never knew they had left. :-)

Not my kind of game, I'm not keen on this Japanese slightly perverted game thing. And yes, I know it's just women in their underwear or skimpy outfits, but if I wanted to see that, I have the internet, I buy a game for the game, not the eye candy. :-)

I wonder what you'll cook either... will you tell, when you make your choice ? :-p

adaliabooks: Thank you.
It is and it isn't serious, it's the after effects of cancer he had three years ago. He's generally fine but has various problems every now and again. He's lived three years longer than we thought he would so we're just grateful to have him around for as long as possible.
I cross my fingers then. And hope you'll still have him around for a long time.

I've been interested in them because it's supposed to be a good fighting game series, but now that I look at the artwork, I can see what you're referring to.
Gotta love the marketing philosophy that cleavage equals interest.

And people wonder why games aren't taken seriously sometimes...

Yeah. Ours are great, but still sometimes you feel like they're just trying to sell you stuff just for the sake of it. It sucks because you just buy it and do it because you love your animals and want them to be better anf I feel sonetines they play on that.

Not much of interest in the sale for me. But look, they've got Fist Puncher! Now you can get another copy and you and Hyper can both have one and stop fighting over it ;)

Despite all the recent issues, with Disney, WB and some more returning games it looks like GoG is definitely on the up, which is nice to know :)

Probably when my partner tell me we are having just before we start cooking it tomorrow. :-)

I will probably find out tonight, or first thing tomorrow. But I'm sure what ever we have will be great.

A bit of cleavage etc. is okay, but some games, take things too far. Especially when the characters are supposed to be school girls or other young girls. But the whole marketing philosophy must work, otherwise we would not see all these games. I guess it's the old saying of sex sells.

Yeah, when it feels like it's being shipped with the whole "all the females are 18 or older, honest" thing, that's pretty damned creepy.

I'm sure it still works to an extent like you said, but fighting games are something where it doesn't mean anything if the gameplay is garbage, regardless of what the characters are wearing.
The stories in them are pretty much always a joke, the actual fighting is all they have to work with.

(Well, unless you're Mortal Kombat. Then it's the fighting and coming up with the nastiest, most vicious fatalities possible. -laughs-)

That's why I hate some vets. They abuse peoples emotions just to overcharge and sell worthless crap. I think it's just evil to manipulate someone like that. But sadly it's not just vets, it happens all over.

But Hyper doesn't have the game yet. He keeps refusing to be gifted it. But I guess now it's on sale he can just buy it himself. :-)

I was thinking about the whole Disney/WB thing. A while ago, GOG said that they need regional pricing to bring big developers. But is it strange that the two big developers so far have flat pricing on their games? It seems that the only people to use regional pricing are greedy indie games. And before people say it's because of tax/vat, that crap. Look at the difference in prices, do you really thing Russia for example has minus tax that makes the game cheaper (I know it's due to piracy, but how is that fair regional priced). Do you think that the UK has the highest VAT rate in Europe? We don't, and yet we often pay the most. Did you know some states in the US now charge tax on digital good purchased from outside the US? If it was really about tax, it would be fair and equal. They would charge just the VAT/tax not more, and they would charge it for everyone, not just some while excluding everyone else from the regional pricing stuff.

I kind of imagine it was actually to get said indie devs on board that they did it, but they sold it to us as a way of getting bigger games on board.

Regional pricing is irritating and I know it's a deal breaker for a lot of people, but for me I don't care as long as I can get it and what I consider to be a fair price. I'm used to paying £50+ for games so if I can get something for under a tenner I'm usually pretty happy.

Japanese animation is really bad for this these days. The whole pre-teen/early teen girls with big boobs and short skirts always showing off their underwear. I find that very creepy. What's worse, is that people just say that's how the Japanese are, as though that makes it okay. But what I find very creepy, is that the US decided to pick up these shows and then dubs them. So clearly there is a demand for this creepy stuff in the West, so it can't just be the Japanese. I know people argue in it's defence, but come on, what kind of creepy guy is enjoying watching slutty children? I miss the days when Japanese animation had adults in them, with decent storylines, when the guys looked like guys and not like girl with their long hair and feminine features. They are supposed to be men for goodness sage. They are not supposed to be just slutty schoolgirls fighting monsters in-between classes (and yes, I know this is a generalisation, but it's still true of the majority of Japanese animations I see mentioned these days).

I have nothing against regional pricing in principle, if it is indeed to do with tax, but I wish it would at least be fair and honest. I wish it would treat everyone the same and not just use it as a way to screw over certain countries.

I honestly don't know the details of tax laws by country, but it wouldn't surprise me that certain independents use the whole thing as a way to justify charging more for items.
It's a screwed up system and the market is overflowing with product. The phrase "unsustainable business model" is popping into my head.
Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.

Good to hear that some of you are doing well.
I hope you get some good rest, moon.
You too, little owl, even though you say you are "fine". ( Love your drawing, by the way :-) )

Anime is very much something you have to dig through in order to find stuff that isn't like what you're mentioning.

And yes, it's a copout to say it's strictly a Japanese thing, when a lot of people regardless of country are A-okay with looking at teenagers wearing little to no clothing.

It's a bad sign when I can think of anime like Wicked City and be able to say, "Well, it might be all kinds of screwed up, but at the very least you can tell the females are adults."

Needless to say, I tend to stick with older shows like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. Started watching Psycho Pass, it's a good show with an interesting premise, and as a bonus the females are adults, they keep their clothing on and the males actually look male, rather than some Square-Enix nightmare.
Does somebody have an opinion about DEVIL'S DARE ?
I'm curious about the FIST PUNCHER game you've already told about ; I just can't remember if these were good or bad words :-D
Lol... Jack Keane n__n.

As I said, I have no problem with them charging the VAT/tax they need to. But it should be fair to everyone, across the board. Why should Russia get games cheap, just because they pirate more (which is a really strange thing to reward them for)? Why should the US not pay tax, just because they will complain and developers would lose sales? Why should the UK and Germany get screwed over paying more than other countries with similar or higher rates of VAT/tax?

If you honestly have to charge tax, then why is it not done fair and to every country? Why can these developers give some countries games tax-free, while others have to pay. There is no justified reason, it's just greed and manipulation.

Sadly I can offer no opinions about the games. But if Fist Puncher appeals to you, then I have a code you can have. I'm sure Hyper will be upset (well, so upset he will jump for joy), that I gave you the code, but I think he will get over it. :-)

How are you doing today? I hope you are well?
