adaliabooks: Is Hearthstone any good? I've always loved collectable card games, Pokemon cards and Warcry (based on Warhammer) were both great, but I only ever really had my brother to play against when we both still lived at my parents. Plus it was really difficult to get Warcry cards in Ireland.

I'm not sure I'd have the time (or inclination) to devote to it, but if it was any good I might give it a try.

Considering the DOTA 2 prizes for the winners were in the 7 figures I can believe that.

DOTA 2 didn't create them, but it has cemented the concept of "super gamers" or competitive professional players, Making videogames a lot more like professional sports. There's the fun silly ball game you play with your friends, and then there's the very serious games of the premier league. DOTA has done a lot for stablishing competitive gaming as a viable professional venue outside Korea.

And I hate it for that.

I have watched the last 2 years of Dota 2 championships on Twitch. I don't play Dota 2 as I really suck at it, but I do enjoy watching it.

I don't get DOTA or the other one (League of Legends?). I watched a couple of videos because it seemed to be such a big deal.. but it just looks boring and rubbish. I can't for the life of me see why anyone would bother with it.

I don't particularly have a problem with professional gaming, I would love to be able to make money from games or gaming, but I play for fun and to relax and I don't think professional gaming is either. I used to think I was quite good at RTS games until I played C & C Generals in a Cyber Cafe one day and found that my opponent had covered the whole map with turrets and completely annihilated me... That's when I realised I wasn't really bothered with playing on that kind of level...

3 if you're a fan of history. 4 and 7 if you're looking for examples of quality. 8 if you're feeling masochistic. 13 and 13-2 if you want the feel of a donkey caving in your testicles with its hoof, only digitally.

Almost forgot - 14 if you feel you have too much spare coin and want to pay a monthly subscription to keep that problem in check.

Most nostalgic neckbeards swear by the truly old ones, like 4 and 6. But they also spurn any remake and accept playing the original versions on emulators as the only way to enjoy them. I'm afraid I can't give you a proper opinion based on personal experience.

That's kind of my point. DOTA 2 has become a spectator videogame, were professional players do things you could NEVER ever do in your whole life. Just like sports.

Depends if you're a fan of JRPGs or not... although if you haven't played a Final Fantasy game you might not know that XD

I would strongly recommend FF V (I assume it's available on PC these days) as it's one of my favourite games ever. FF VI is quite good too, although I didn't enjoy it as much. I've never played it, but FF IV is also supposed to be good.

The later 3D ones are ok, but I've only really played VIII and it's not as good as the 2D ones.

I had a horse kick me in the ass but that donkey thing? Hmmm.....

I've only played the GBA and DS ones, but even though they are a bit childish I love them (loads of jobs and skills! My favourite :) )

I see 3,4,7 and newer ones. 4 is less expensive so maybe that one.

I still think 6 is the best of the bunch.
Dear gods, am I a nostalgic neckbeard....? -laughs- Thought I'd need a few more years before truly earning that title.
Guess I'm only half of one since I don't mind remakes so long as they're done well.
But then, on the other hand, I've been obsessing over 7th Saga for 20 years.
Maybe I'm just crazy. (Also, wouldn't be surprised if most people don't remember 7th Saga. It's a game made to hurt people.)

Good call. =) Looking at 3 myself since I'm not in the mood to dig through emulators and language patches.
Getting lazy, I think.
4's good for an example of classic-type. 7 is where they changed the game up, different aesthetics, different flow to it all. (Course, they took that idea and have been running it into the ground ever since....)

I've never played it, but 4 is supposed to be good so I'd go for it. 7 is also supposed to be good, but again I've never played the whole thing and what I have seen / played of it did not quite live up to the hype.

3 could be one of two games, because 6 was released as 3 in America... and the actual three was only released in the West more recently... 6 isn't too bad, but 3 is a bit dated (I played the DS remake when it came out), just little touches like not being able to save in dungeons and the job system being a bit rubbish.

I liked Final Fantasy VI (FF3 SNES) best. I also liked the first half of FFVII. Haven't tried anything more recent. I'd have to ask my daughter about FFVIII-FF10-2
