It's a good atmosphere created with stupidity, if that makes sense.
Fighting your way through monsters, being a bit tense because of shadow and darkness, that's fun.
But, that's all caused by your character, who's supposed to be a soldier, being too stupid to tape their flashlight to the end of their gun. So you either get shoot-bang, or the ability to see. As such you end up with a lot of switching back and forth, which does work to heighten tension by way of your character being defenseless while the flashlight is being used.
Also, it can get a bit annoying to have monsters either teleporting in, or appearing by way of secret hidey-hole doors that are only used for enemies to have a way to attempt to blindside you. Again, that creates tension, but it's mixed with me wondering not only what halfwit built the place with sliding panels for so many walls, but why monsters who can teleport also use them.
