Show off your (old) gear, win shiny new (ROCCAT) gear!

As you know, the GOG.com catalog spans many titles dating back as far as 1980 (, we're looking at you!), in times when computers kind of looked like modern-day [url=http://prepare.icttrends.com/images/2012/06/IBM_PC.jpg]microwaves sat on top of a console, and the first portable computer, the Osborne I, was put on the market in all the glory of its 24 pounds of weight and a steep $1,795 price tag.

We don't expect you to have gear that's quite as old, but we are curious as to what treasures you might be keeping in a box stored away in the basement or deep in an attic drawer. So show us your oldest gear and be greatly rewarded with the some of the newest on the market, courtesy of gaming gear creator and producer ROCCAT!

THE RULES:

- Your entry should consist of 1 or 2 pictures of your old gear and a description of up to 100 words telling us what it is, where you got it, what you used it for or any other fond memories you have with it. Maybe it was your first joystick? Maybe an old Atari controller you kept as a memento? We want to hear about it!
- You can only post one entry per person. If you post more, only the first one will be counted.
- You may not edit your post.
- Use your own photos of your own gear - we do know how to do a reverse image search!

Post your entry in the comments below before the deadline - you have a week, until March 6th, at 1:59 PM GMT. We aim to judge your entries and pick winners by Thursday, March 12th - we'll announce them in the contest forum thread and via PM to the winners themselves.

THE PRIZES:

1st place prize: a ROCCAT Isku, gaming keyboard with blue-tinted illumination, secondary programmable Shift function, and Thumbster Macro Keys below the spacebar to maximise gaming effectiveness

2nd place prize: a ROCCAT Savu, mid-size hybrid gaming mouse with an adjustable, 400-4000 DPI optical sensor, secondary programmable function, customizable illumination, and a powerful driver suite

3rd place prize: a ROCCAT Sense, mousepad with friction-reducing microcrystalline coating for greater mouse speed and precision

All winners will also get GOG.com gift codes to use on games of their choice to test out their new gear!

Honorable mentions: We expect there to be many great-quality entries, so we're reserving the right to give out honorable mentions to all those we find did a brilliant job, but didn't quite make the podium cut. They'll get GOG.com gift codes to use on titles available in our catalog.

Should you be one of our top three winners, we will need some mailing data (name, address, phone number) to ship your prize to you. If the ROCCAT Marketing Team ends up sending the prizes directly to you, we will need to share your mailing information with them. We will not share it with anyone that doesn't need it!

Please note that this contest is also being held on the French and German GOG.com forum - winners will be chosen, regardless of language, from across all three contest topics. :)

Did you have that one Pac-Man clone that looked sort of like an old school vacuum cleaner?
My trash is old as a stone... a slow processor with a louse S3 graphic card, 100 GB HD (LOL) and a AOC 17'' monitor. Hehe, I could play Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. At least I'd a multimedia keyboard (with a broken speaker) I believe is a mid 90's PC

In the 2nd pic the big table with all the stuff & "main" computer (P6 & Voodoo 2) I remember long weekend playing Rogue Spear Urban Ops ( I miss it in gog). Damn, great times with lousy hardware... He even the camera I'd used to take the pics was old as a wheel with 3 wonderful megapixels.

yes...Clean Sweep I think it's called.
Minesweeper (an Asteroids clone) was my favorite

All of my old gear is in my parent's attic. I thought I had some TRS-80 Color Computer cassettes around here, but I don't find them.
Damn, I think we threw away all of our old computer stuff. That old yellowed cigarette and coffee stained 486 DX2. Got me through the days.

All I have to show for days of gamings past are part of my old boxed collection:

This is my ZX Spectrum. A 8 bit computer with 48KB ROM + 16 KB ROM, and a Z80A CPU running at 3.5 MHz!, 15 Colors! 1 Channel music with a beeper (awesome)! A real beast! I play a lot of game with it (Manic Miner, Galactic Games, etc.). You can also find some “modern” games for spectrum such as Prince of Persia or Lemmings!

In the picture you can see my spectrum with a cassette recorder (games were in cassette tape!), one of my games, the joystick, and a modified Kempston Interface to attach the joystick.

*sigh* I wish we hadn't had to sell off our original IBM PC, Compaq Portable, and 386SX with 2MiB of RAM before that one move.

As is, the oldest gear I have is either my Gravis PC Gamepad (remaining gear I've owned longest) or my Atari 520STFM (picked up on garbage day relatively recently)... neither of which are remotely likely to make it into the top three most impressive entries.

(Well, that and boxes containing hundreds upon hundreds of CD jewel cases and spindled CD-ROMs. Sadly, I didn't have room to keep the boxes unless they were sturdy enough to be used to store other things and the jewel cases which had no inserts were reused for other things.)

catpower1980: *** I'M IN !***

(but only for the gift codes, no need for new gear ^o^)

In the picture lies my dear 21 year old mousepad that I still use. In 1994, it came bundled with a Compaq Presario (486 SX with CD drive and 8Mo RAM). From Doom 2 to Divinity Original Sin, it has followed me during 2 decades of PC gaming. Won't trade it for a Roccat mousepad ;)
I think it's alive... Or at least undead.

The best I could come up with would be some original NES game cartridges of games such as the first Super Mario Bros. or Castlevania. Might still have the first Metroid, too.

This is my Logitech Wingman Rumblepad. I've had it since I bought it back in 2000 at a long-gone chain called Computer City. While the store may be history, this controller still works flawlessly. It lacks the number of buttons modern controllers have, but it has a throttle which I love. I still use it to play games that do well with proper throttle control, like my all-time favourite, IL-2 Sturmovik (played in OS X via Crossover). The only feature that doesn't work with my Mac is the Rumble function (this feature still works when hooked up to my Windows laptop). In the decade and a half that I've had my Wingman, I've worn the left thumb stick smooth from use (see pics)! I couldn't begin to calculate how many hours this thing has survived, or all the games I've used it with. It will be a sad day when it stops working...though, given how well it's survived so far, that might be sometime after the Nuclear Zombie Asteroid Apocalypse.

DrakeFox: I present to you, my Commodore 128. Since childhood when my father bought this I've held onto it and still play on it when nostalgia takes me.
I taught myself basic on this computer before even learning english.
Among the games pictured Ultima V holds a special place for me. I spent countless hours on it, and when I learned English I found the game actually had music if you booted in C128 mode. Sadly my disks corrupted.
And yes, Sega re-released collections back then too. Shinobi, crackdown, Golden Axe, Eswat and Monaco GP.
A Commodore 128 and real joysticks! Wanna marry me? :-)

mistermumbles: Yikes! I hope you clean that thing once in a while. Looks pretty ratty.

I doubt anyone will beat you in the longest use of a single mouse pad.
LOL, i was pretty sure someone would comment on that :o)

In fact, it's not dirt but rather the black surface under the mousepad which somehow makes it's way up because of the decaying plastic surface. The upper surface is clean but the intersection between the two materials tends to merge.

And thanks for the "longest use" record, as they say in English: "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" ;)

PS: I even use some repair tools from my grandfather and live in a house built in 1904, so I pretty much live with old gears around :o))))
