Show off your (old) gear, win shiny new (ROCCAT) gear!

As you know, the GOG.com catalog spans many titles dating back as far as 1980 (, we're looking at you!), in times when computers kind of looked like modern-day [url=http://prepare.icttrends.com/images/2012/06/IBM_PC.jpg]microwaves sat on top of a console, and the first portable computer, the Osborne I, was put on the market in all the glory of its 24 pounds of weight and a steep $1,795 price tag.

We don't expect you to have gear that's quite as old, but we are curious as to what treasures you might be keeping in a box stored away in the basement or deep in an attic drawer. So show us your oldest gear and be greatly rewarded with the some of the newest on the market, courtesy of gaming gear creator and producer ROCCAT!

THE RULES:

- Your entry should consist of 1 or 2 pictures of your old gear and a description of up to 100 words telling us what it is, where you got it, what you used it for or any other fond memories you have with it. Maybe it was your first joystick? Maybe an old Atari controller you kept as a memento? We want to hear about it!
- You can only post one entry per person. If you post more, only the first one will be counted.
- You may not edit your post.
- Use your own photos of your own gear - we do know how to do a reverse image search!

Post your entry in the comments below before the deadline - you have a week, until March 6th, at 1:59 PM GMT. We aim to judge your entries and pick winners by Thursday, March 12th - we'll announce them in the contest forum thread and via PM to the winners themselves.

THE PRIZES:

1st place prize: a ROCCAT Isku, gaming keyboard with blue-tinted illumination, secondary programmable Shift function, and Thumbster Macro Keys below the spacebar to maximise gaming effectiveness

2nd place prize: a ROCCAT Savu, mid-size hybrid gaming mouse with an adjustable, 400-4000 DPI optical sensor, secondary programmable function, customizable illumination, and a powerful driver suite

3rd place prize: a ROCCAT Sense, mousepad with friction-reducing microcrystalline coating for greater mouse speed and precision

All winners will also get GOG.com gift codes to use on games of their choice to test out their new gear!

Honorable mentions: We expect there to be many great-quality entries, so we're reserving the right to give out honorable mentions to all those we find did a brilliant job, but didn't quite make the podium cut. They'll get GOG.com gift codes to use on titles available in our catalog.

Should you be one of our top three winners, we will need some mailing data (name, address, phone number) to ship your prize to you. If the ROCCAT Marketing Team ends up sending the prizes directly to you, we will need to share your mailing information with them. We will not share it with anyone that doesn't need it!

Please note that this contest is also being held on the French and German GOG.com forum - winners will be chosen, regardless of language, from across all three contest topics. :)
Here's some of my oldest gear.

Wasteland for C-64
The cloth map from Ultima V
The Silver Anniversary Archives for Dungeons & Dragons
Atari Joysick, MS 3D Sidewinder, Thrustmaster Tacicalboard and THE CLAW!

Enjoy the nostalgia!

Pic #1: My first joysticks. The left one came with Commodore 64 in 1989. Made by Sony and uncomfortable as hell. Only the head with fire buttons moves, the stick is fixed. The other one gave in after hours of abuse and broke in half. Joysticks were expensive as hell so my dad glued it together, put some screws in it and filled it with plaster filling. Both joysticks still work. :)

Pic #2: My first original PC game. I bought it with the money I had earned picking aronia. I was in the 8th grade back then. :)

My old Grandstand Astro Wars and Munchman (as it was re-branded in the UK) electronic games. My parents were never into gaming but they'd happily give these two a play with us! I haven't played either in I don't know how many years but I can still vividly recall the tune when Munchman starts. Ahhh, memories. :)
My father gave me his old Win. 98 PC when i was a child. The first games i ever played were Packman and Lemmings. The next games were POD and Subculture. When i got Star Wars Episode 1 we upgraded the machine with new hardware. The next games that followed were Thandor the Invasion, C & C Red Alert and Thunder Brigade. Years later i discovered Star Wars X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter on a flea market. This was the first time that Tevion Erazer Joystick really got important for me. It is a terrible Joystick but was used houndrets of hours by me. :) I also played Star Wars X-Wing Alliance on this machine. I still remember flying through Death Star II with maybe 15 FPS.

By the way the mouse shown on this picture does not have a mouse wheel. :)

All those devices should still work today.

Man did i love playing those games.!
Baldur's Gate was one of my most played.
And before that, before the existence of CD, it was Tyrian. i remember the day i found the ultra secret Tyrian level on Hard. Never could get there a second time though.
As for the Ps2, im still using it.
And that gameboy... untold days have been passed on it. Its all yellow now.

Note the cameo of the cassette tape player. such good times i had with it, before CD existed.

I've kept this for years, even though my Atari stopped working long ago. I loved Combat so much, especially the bouncing bullets tank mode. Rr-rr-rr-rr-rr-rr. BANG! POW! Who knew that tanks spun like tops when they were shot? Blew my little mind.

This is a great contest...I could probably dig something up but really enjoying what people are posting. If there is ever an old game library contest I'll enter that. I have a good collection of older games still in the boxes I could post. Not too old but 90's onward.
For some reason it didn't attach the picture on my previous post and we're not allowed to edit out posts for some reason, so here's the second try:

48 months old Ace CUB101 Wired R2 keyboard once purchased for 20$ with mouse in a package.
Purchased it due to dying in a game because my old keyboard suddenly died on me. It's the very first keyboard I purchase by myself. It's been a loyal companion cherished with love, regulary cleaned. This love of mine has been with me through all my tough times in all sort of games, Tibia, WoW, CS, Aion, GW, Minecraft, HoN etc.
Despite being a budget keyboard I've been very satisfied with its performance. Thank you for doing your time with me dear keyboard.

Having a nice Microsoft Sidewinder and Razer Daethadder not sure I need the gear anyway :)

I have quite a bit of old gear, mostly 8 bit computers. The C64 is my favorite out of the bunch and I got my first one way back in '86. I usually keep a C64 setup up and running, but most of my gear is in storage now due to a lack of proper housing over here, so it's just emulators these days :(

I do have a Competition Pro USB joystick which makes it more bearable though, so that's nice :P

I have this chest full of things of great sentimental value.

One of them is Casio SF-3000 – they were made sometime during 80´s – had a large 18KB RAM and 93x32 display!

It was given to me by my godfather, when he had no use for it anymore, because it broke down. I, being a small child back then, considered it a super-cool gift and I was sure I will repair it and make it work one day.

To this day, it sits in dark in my sentimental chest, collecting dust as a nice childhood memory :)

jackster79: That got me thinking... wonder how many people jumped onto the Zip drive craze? Or even recall what a Zip drive is? :-D
I did, I even have two of them (should still have, at least, as well as 7 or 8 disks), my first Zip drive was a parallel-port one that thus didn't work with my Mac (it, of course, had a SCSI port that looked exactly the same as a parallel port), but I later got a SCSI drive that worked. They are 100MB drives/disks, and I never acquired any 250MB or 750MB drives though I did want them (the prices of CD-R/RW discs and recorders were sinking so I eventually saved up to get one of those instead).

Showing off with old (truly) gear is fine, but what if you require to obtain some old map for your rare game. What if your friend mapped all 'Eye Of The Beholder' and you want his map in order not draw it yourself? Here comes this gear - it will help. How do I obtained it? Just bought. The most memorable moment? Restoration a Cave map for 'The Legend Of Kyrandia' which became ragged because of its old age. Yeah, it a scanner which just lived its years back in cellar and it is its Moment Of Glory. Long live old fighters! :)

I've had this since about 1994. Played the original TIE Fighter with it (on floppies!). It absolutely rocked. Hooked up to Thrustmaster's HOTAS system. Had the FCS joystick *and* rudder (to play MechWarrior II) but I think I gave those away.

Wouldn't mind just a GOG.com gift code; someone else can have the ROCCAT gear. They're nice but I'm loaded with gear as is. :)
