As a kid, my family fed me on a steady diet of adventure games. Early childhood was passed with Sierra stuff, but we migrated to LucasArts as well too. So many stories!
I'd sit behind my father watching him play, and I was quite proud of one time when in KQ5, I yelled at him to use the harp on the Ice Queen before the wolves devoured us.
Another story I remember is being stuck at the beginning of Fate of Atlantis (not knowing how to deal with getting Sophia off the stage). My sister finally caved and agreed to tell me how to pass that if I told her why I cried while watching Harvey (which she lorded over me for years :D).
My sister was always devious with her help in games. I remember in Prince of Persia (not yet available on gog, but I can hope, even though it is available for free otherwise), me and my friend would always be playing together, pressing all the jump buttons together for the longer jumps, and falling behind and be losing time fairly quickly. My sister was always willing to apply the level cheat code, but never told it to us, so we had to always rely on her.

What standards our society has... If that would be done to people as soon as they exhibit aggression towards others too...

I remember when my parents divorced. I was playing Final Fantasy III (US). The game was poignant to me at that time as I was already emotional. The game's characters felt so relatable, particularly Locke who felt responsible for Terra. It really resonated with me as my life felt like it was falling apart. The characters went through a world ending catyclism as I was enduring my own, and their courage to continue on in the hopeless face of a desolate and ruined world helped me face my personal Hell. Many years later when I was going through my own divorce, wouldn't you know FFVI was there for me again on the PSX, and I found myself in a familiar place, using the charcters' own courage to bolster mine in the face of a life changing event yet again. And again they helped my pull through the toughest times of my life.

Shinryu sounds right. It literally means god dragon.

The version my friend and I played was definitely bugged. If you destroyed him easily in a speedrun, there's no reason my OP characters couldn't kill it. I don't remember my set-up, just that they had all maxed every class. I was never in danger of dying and doing a ton of damage each turn. It just got so tedious after more than 20 minutes, when it should've melted in minutes. Which it did in the GBA version.

The only monster that ever wiped my party in FFV was the stronger version of Omega Weapon in the GBA's post-game dungeon. It drove me nuts because it was the only one left in my bestiary. Went to play another game for a bit, tried again and finally defeated the bastard.

Out of curiosity, which version did you play? I can't seem to find info about this, whether it was a widespread bug, or if they patched it in future releases (of the Super Famicom version, I mean, obviously it's been patched since then) (then again, I'm too lazy to dig really deeply :p). Dunno about my friend, sadly lost contact years ago, but I know my family bought a used Super Famicom cartridge.

Not that I really lack games, my backlog is big enough like that, but still it's a bit disappointing...

It wasn't actually a speedrun as such... I just won it really quickly. My characters weren't all maxed out, but they each had three or four specific jobs maxed (hence being able to beat him and Omega at all).

It's been years since I've played so I can't remember if there was a specific trick to beat him or not.. like if he absorbed certain types of damage (I think he did).

I played what I believe was a Japanese ROM that had been fan translated because the names of things were all different to the English PlayStation rerelease a friend played.

I should probably get the GBA version at some point for the extra content.
