Head to Kickstarter to support the sequel while downloading your FREE copy of CONSORTIUM

Did you feel that? The iDGi-1 satellite has just opened another rift in time and space. And during this fortunate disturbance, GOG.com and Interdimensional Games Inc. joined forces and managed to secure a 48-hour time-pocket within which we can distribute as many FREE CONSORTIUM: The Master Edition copies as we like all over Earth! But this disturbance was triggered by another, equally interesting event: CONSORTIUM: The Tower, the sequel to the choice-driven sci-fi simulation, is on Kickstarter and you can help it become a reality with your support! So grab your free GOG copy before February 13, 1:59 PM GMT and then go for a tour through CONSORTIUM: The Tower. Or go at it the other way around. As within the games, the choice is entirely up to you.

The original CONSORTIUM was an innovative exercise in player agency through a procedurally-unfolding story. The experiment was a success and now Interdimensional Games Inc. hope to take it to the next level with CONSORTIUM: The Tower. This time, global peacekeeper Bishop Six finds himself in London, 2042, where a massive skyscraper has been taken over by terrorists while a snowstorm rages outside. Your job is to infiltrate the building, neutralize the perpetrators, and rescue the hostages in any way you see fit. Direct action, stealth, negotiation, sabotage - they are all viable options as the story will constantly change and adapt to your playstyle. The developers describe the experience as a blend between the original Deus-Ex and Die Hard. We'll hold them hostage to that promise!

Become a part of the CONSORTIUM for FREE and immerse yourself in this innovative blend of diverse gameplay mechanics and adaptable narrative. Once you have claimed your free copy of CONSORTIUM: The Master Edition you will need to wait a bit until the game gets added to your account. If you already own the game on GOG.com you'll receive an email with a giftable code. The promo will end on February 13, 1:59 PM GMT.

The Kickstarter campaign for CONSORTIUM: The Tower ends February 20th.
Thanks, but the reviews of the game are on the bad side, so I'll pass.
Maybe the sequel, if it will be worth.

I already have been on the fence for that game. Unfortunately it has no Linux support and seems not to run well under Wine. Now I can try to run it myself. ;)

Thanks GOG and iDGi!

It actually seems to run quite well with newer Wine versions: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_judas_does_this_run_in_wine_thread/post152
I paid a pretty penny for it back when it was freshly released an riddled with bugs. Now that the most serious bugs have been ironed out, they're giving it away. Ah, but I don't regret having paid for it as it offers unprecendented freedom of choice, albeit it's somewhat short. And it doesn't hold your hand; perfect for people who feel that many adventure games insult their intelligence.

Thanks! I forgot about that thread. Unfortunately the Linux/Wine information is so scattered.
Nice to know it runs under Wine 1.9. I will try to run it under Wine 1.8 before I go to compile Wine 1.9 myself though.

Edit:
Just for the record, the game does not work properly under Wine 1.8 for me.

I've supported them, this is a very generous move! Thank you developers and GOG!

This game caught my eye when it was released, not for its quality, but for how many bugs and other technical issues were reported on release. The developer then did something that stunned parts of the gaming world: they apologized. They admitted they made mistakes, that they didn't test as well as thoroughly as they should have, and that the product was not to the standards they intended. It was the first time, likely this century, that a developer actually acted like an adult in response to constructive criticism, instead of blindly supporting their staff, or even openly insulting and censoring their fan base for bringing grievances to their attention. *cough* Bioware. *cough* *cough*. "Artistic integrity" Remember that bullshit line? Four years later, I still remember.

So not only is the policy of this company to say, "We are so sorry we screwed up, we are trying to change, please give us another chance", but also "Hey, please have a free copy of our game to promote our sequel". Wow. This is a company I can support. This is a company I'd be willing to invest in. So thanks to the developer for acting like adults, and treating their fans as such. I will be monitoring this company with great interest.

IronArcturus: Does anyone know if there is a way to fix the sound issues? I'm hearing a lot of staticky popping noises in Consortium. I'm running Win7 64-bit.
It's quite likely that it's intended. I was a bit puzzled with some visual glitches that I encountered but the reasoning given is that given that you're playing through someone else's view via an uplink there are glitches in the transmission which effect sound and visuals from time to time.

Unless it is a technical issue not related to that presentation issue. They're a friendly team though so I wouldn't hesitate to get in touch if you're concerned.
Does anyone know what exactly was changed with Master edition over vanilla?

Thanks GOG.

Found the answer here for those interested:

I'm not talking about the "distortion" scenes, I mean the regular scenes where there shouldnt't be any audio distortion. It looks like a sound codec bug in the game.
Already had it but thanks for the freebie anyway! :)
The kickstarter isn't looking great but I hope they can still get the game finished regardless.

Please don't be discouraged by the reviews of part one. They are partly based on bugs which were fixed within a few weeks after release.
We need more creative scifi games, so please give it a try. It really goes through with the concept if you decide something, you won't see the other half of the game, which will give weight to the player choice for once!
GoG are always generous with giveaways, from old classics to bigger titles. Thx.
