It comes down to stock brokers who represent the stockholdrs saying "hey, china's lucrative." It's like the whole thing of "gaming phones" i heard people invested in. The people i met who were hardcore proud to be investing in "gaming phones" obviously didn't play video games or understand the gaming market.

There is one huge, huge difference. Steam is privately owned, which means no investors to bow to. If that ever changes I'll be done with gaming altogether. I'm almost there as it is. No modding, games as a service, sjw bs infested into gaming.

Personally I don't see what you get out of deleting your GOG account; just stop buying their shit and their own 'poor faculties' will have them fail soon enough.
At the moment there is realistically only two players in the digital marketplace worth squat if you want decent full products (epic & steam) and the real problem is that generaly reviled douche's like Bobby Kotick are the big hitters determining how games are sold (with micro transactions, loot boxes and DLC) at the most minimum of expense churning out cardboard cutouts of their very own games time and again that `didn't even have much substance to begin with.
We need more Indie Devs, but indie devs have such little cash flow they are paranoid about piracy.
Lets face it things like 'tidal' might seem logically a sure thing in a developers head, but the reality is I don't think a lot of developers pool ideas from outside their own drawers. :P
If you don't have good contact with your target consumers and get real feedback on what they want you can't do things like...

You can't just make a game that you want to play because the idea for you is easy to implement; and big production games focus more on exposure and adverts than on being decent games because the industry is wrapped up on day 1 sales & dick move sales techniques to overreach their worth.
Fact is all the low hanging fruit has piled up in the corner to rot and what we have is just anouther industry suffering from the effects of late stage capitalism where you can't eke the exponential economic gains of the past because the well has all but metaphorically dried up either in that the return on investment is lowered, the expenses have risen or the duplicitious nature of trying to force bad deals on consumers has raised awareness & with it made the act of swindling a deprecating art.
The end result are unbudging producers who think 'it's my way or the high way' and try to ignore the reality that highway it is.
You screw over customers who pay big dollars for what you supply as an unfinished buggy mess; then your gonna reap exactly what in reality you've sown & big data won't save you in the long run trying to run things positive off the numbers if the model is broke.
You'll keep having to reinvent better and better mouse traps and the economical noose will just keep getting tighter until you can't even afford a real wage out of the work.

Maybe I'm an optimist, but I don't think it's a fear of being Banned in China. I think Cyberpunk didn't go as smoothly as it could have, and right now they need to be able to do business on the internet.

The ramifications of releasing the game could have Chinese Hackers up the wazoo for GOG...and cyber attacks, DDOS, and the rest is not something they really can deal with right now on top of everything else they are trying to handle.

I think GOG may release it next year sometime, AFTER things are more settled down and they don't have multiple bonfires burning at the same time.
