RafaelRamus: It kind of sucks when you're hyped about a game and suddenly, boom, you can't really continue because there is some "in your face" stuff.
In all honesty I wish no religions were invented, the world would be a much better, happier, safer and balanced economically place.

sorry, bit off topic.
for 44 years I have been Catholic. Then my Husky died; the only person who helped me to survive was a yogi Sadhguru. Now I'm agnostic I suppose.

rjbuffchix: I don't identify with any of the stuff you mentioned in the OP so I hope I am allowed to participate, as no one has mentioned this game yet: Driftmoon. I'd think it's worth looking into as it was apparently made by religious (Christian) folks.

That would have been my first suggestion, too.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm positively surprised by your Vampire - The Masquerade: Redemption recommendation. Really good to know.

Wishmaster777: Download Medieval II - Total War version 1.0, pick up a Catholic faction, launch a Crusade. There you have it. Very Catholic-friendly game. As a Catholic myself I like it a lot.

Thank you. I was already intrigued by this game and so this one goes to my Wishlist.

morolf: Maybe Kingdom come: Deliverance, for its non-hostile portrayal of medieval Christendom. Haven't played it myself though.

Really good game indeed, all 50 gb of it.

thegreyshadow: I'd recommend a masterpiece although it's a flawed one: Far Cry 2. Obviously, very adult outlook and very violent.
But in a sea of grey, the only good ones are the Underground folks, and it's even hinted that one of their leaders gave his life for his people, all due to Christian principles and beliefs. I was very surprised to see a fair portrayal of Christians in a major game.

And this one has a nice discount right now, thanks for pointing it out.

That said, consider that there are people who have played this game, who don't identify with that type of religion, who find the material in the game very "in your face"...just like you, OP, are trying to avoid on the opposite end of things.

So I'd like to recommend both the game and consideration of that point.
.
Thanks for the recommendation. Regarding your point, well, I don't know how much "in your face" it is, but if it is too much maybe this should indeed be in the store page (although it is in the reviews. I wish people were so thrilled to point out some other things in other games the same way they bring this up in those reviews though); maybe a single phrase like "fantasy with Christian undertones". The thing is that, overall, the better the authors are at writing, the better they can get away with it. Tolkien's works are pretty Catholic (and, according to him, this was a conscient effort during his editing more so than during the writing, which is something that I find not that easy to do - I say this as a writer myself) and still people don't go writing "well, that was pretty Catholic of him" in their reviews of the books - well, that is, unless you are Catholic yourself.

Mafwek: Sweet Emperor of Mankind, this identity politics is really getting ridiculous!

I don't think that means what you think it means, but ok. This has less to do with my identity and more with what I (and people like me) enjoy playing and what I don't. Many times certain themes and motifs remain hidden until you come across them, and store pages are quite often pretty vague regarding plot (and that's understandable). That's why threads like this may be useful for people like me (and hey, they may be useful for people unlike me as well. You may want to check what games appear in this thread and avoid them altogether because they are too friendly to people like me).
Obs.: and I got your Warhammer 40k reference btw ;P .

DOOM (1993) - the story interestingly parallels Christ's persecution, suffering, descent, resurrection, and triumph. It takes some digging to find, and it's there none-the-less.

In a more serious answer: tfishell is 100% right - the Humongous Entertainment point-n-click adventures were awesome (Putt Putt series holds a special place in my heart)

A Boy and his Blob, Bit.Trip series, World of Goo, and a bit edgier: the Batman Arkham Series.

If you're up for a practice in tedium (and I use that as a term of endearment here), there's always Zoo Tycoon and Rise of Nations.

EDIT: the one's I would avoid would probably be the most extreme, SJW-soaked indie titles. Some of those seem a bit forced, where their message is first and gameplay perfunctory

You're welcome! And it's good that summer vacation is just kicking in. I began to play that wretched game, blinked, and when I realized I plunged 150 hours on it. It is annoying at times, but it could be really engrossing. Hope you enjoy it.

I am assuming that as a conservative christian you want "CLEAN" games that don't have any political agendas or subversive nonsense in them.
I am assuming you just want family friendly games that won't raise any eyebrows if your parents walk in your room while you are playing those games. And games that show themes taught in the Bible.

Here is a short list -

Freebird games for its christian themes about helping good people
Supergiant games for its christian themes about love and sacrifice
Alan Wake games for its christian themes about about loyalty to wife
Darksiders series for its christian themes about apocalypse
Abzu for its christian themes about accepting and respecting nature
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter for its christian themes about respecting and loving your family members
Deus Ex GOTY for its christian themes about why man should never play god and the consequences of playing god
Cuphead for its christian themes about overcoming adversity

AnimalMother117: If you're okay with playing as a privateer then Sid Meier's Pirates! is fantastic.
Sid Meier isn't Catholic, but he is a practicing Lutheran. IIRC, he's a guitarist with his church's praise band.

Darklands seems like an obvious example. I can't think of any other games in which the magic system is based on praying to saints and the clock follows church time. It attempts to portray its setting without judging or satirizing it.

Going in the complete opposite direction for settings, Primordia stands out to as an example of a game that deals with certain themes without being explicitly political while still being something that I think most people can relate to. Something that's becoming an increasingly lost art.

Me neither, but if the trailer is of any indication, there are scenes of making love to a wuman.

As far as I know, Catholics don't make love. They make babies.

The Talos Principle and Bloodborne are the best Christian games I ever played.
Lionheart - Legacy of the Crusader is an RPG that deals with the aftermath of the crusades in a fantasy setting with a cool vibe. It's not the best game ever but it's worth checking out and was made by Black Isle Studios.
Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe a really fun and family-friendly puzzle game :)
it completely depends on which games you like. I personally can recommend:

Crepper World 4 (or any of the others in the series)
TRI: Of friendship and madness
Psychnonauts
Factorio
Shapez.io
Trine 1 and 2
GemCraft
Skyrim / Oblivion / Morrowind
Tower of Guns
Jouney to the savage planet
No man's sky
SUPERHOT / SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE
Opus Magnum
Immortal defense
Steamworld Dig / Steamworld Dig 2

And many more. Any spesific genre you like?
What about a game made to recreate a biblical setting? If you don't mind getting a game in another store, I was pleasantly surprised by Five: Guardians of David.

It's basically a Diablo-like (BTW that is NOT one title I would recommend in this thread ;-) ) ARPG where you are one of the main warriors of King David's army in the battles mentioned in the books of Samuel / First Chronicles. Basically "the philistines are attacking and they have a giant called Goliath", "there is a moabite army about to attack our borders, face off against them in the valley to the south", "now invade the ammonite city at night and kill the enemy general while he is poorly guarded"... Stuff like that.

And you play with 5 (actually 6) different characters who you change at will according to who is in the current mission, each one with their own favorite weapon and skills so the gameplay doesn't get boring. Even non-christians might enjoy it because the game is not "preachy". My only complaint is that the game is too easy.

Add another vote for Driftmoon. It is a nice work of love and it shows.

sasuke12: I am assuming that as a conservative christian you want "CLEAN" games that don't have any political agendas or subversive nonsense in them.
It’s kind of ironic that you assume that OP doesn’t want “political agendas” or “subversive nonsense” in them, and then you list some games that are at their core about political and societal agendas and surbversive ideas.

*sacrifice

*apocalypse (if the book of revelations isn’t about political and societal agendas, then I don’t know)

*gene manipulation

*human cloning

*mechanical and cybernetic enhancement/manipulation of humans

*artificial intelligence and transferring consciousness to hardware, man-made artificial immortality (not very Christian)

*manipulating populations on a global scale

And the most baffling part you mention is

* Christian themes about helping good people...

Which is some supply side Jesus level understanding of Christianity or Catholicism in particular.

And the whole killing people thing is also not so much in the vein of “love thy enemy”, nor very “clean”, unless we still apply the value system of the early crusades from almost a millenium ago where killing infidels was a good thing by definition. ;)

By no means I’m criticizing these games. They’re actually good, and e.g. Deus Ex is on my all-time favorite list. But these games or games in general contain a lot of “subversive” and political “agendas”, even if sometimes only by implication. It would be helpful if OP were a bit less vague about what they’re looking for. E.g. conservative Christians in the US can be very different from what Europeans would see as conservative Christians.Pentecostals or New-Born Christians who read the Bible literally and deny evolution are almost nonexistent in other parts of the Western world. Some even condemn the Harry Potter books because of “witchcraft”.

I guess that most puzzle games should be a pretty safe bet that don’t really challenge the moral feelings of even the most conservative US Christians, like:

DROD 1+2+3

DROD RPG: Tendry’s Tale

DROD 4: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder

DROD: The Second Sky

TIS-100

Shenzhen I/O (warning, contains “subversive” hacking!!!)

Infinifactory (warning, alien overlords!)

Spacechem (aliens, again!)

EXAPUNKS (warning, (unethical) hacking!!!)

The Incredible Machine Mega Pack (great classic Rube Goldberg machine puzzle game)

PixelJunk Shooter (really good fluid physics based game)

World of Goo (really good physics based puzzle game)

Mini Metro (manage and build a metro network)

The Castlevania series does a very good job at being respectful about this.
