The other day I began getting newsletters from this site that I don't remember signing up for. Confused, I visit, discovering that it said I did sign up for it. The problem is, I don't remember making an account for this website, yet here it is. And according to my library, I have 10 free games that I don't remember getting, either, which it says I got in 2012. Is there a way to check my account age? Also, could anyone possibly tell me why I have an account that I don't remember making?

EDIT: I found on the left it says when my account was created, but I still don't remember making it.

You got them by signing up.

Drugs? Multiple personalities? Head trauma? Aliens?

Curious, if you have no recollection of having this account, how did you remember the credentials required to sign in and post here?

If you want the exact date your account was created, you have to contact GOG Support, as that info isn't provided on any of the account pages.

As for your second question, well, it's been almost 5yrs since you created the account. Perhaps you signed up for a game that was being given away for free by GOG at the time, and never returned? Or perhaps you signed up for some reason you no longer remember?
This has to be one of the strangest threads I have ever seen in here. XD
Count out drugs since I would've been younger than 18 in 2012, and I haven't been diagnosed with multiple personalities or received head trauma since then. Aliens? Maybe, who knows? :P

Well, I've found that I have an account now, but why would I want that if I've got Steam since around the same time?

EDIT: The only reason I could make up is because Terraria is also available on here (you gotta admit, that's a good game). I didn't remember the credentials, I just saw that my e-mail was attached to the site, and tested to see if I just wasn't signed up to the newsletter by sending a password reset to my email (which as you can see, worked).

18 is when I stopped doing drugs. :P It's the only way I could cope with High School, no pun intended.
Did you receive a "Welcome to GOG" message to your mail box in November 2012? At least I got one back in June 2011 when I joined.

We can of course try to guess what has happened, like:

1. You have simply forgotten you created an account at some point to GOG, you wanted to check it for a reason or another but decided it is not for you blaa blaa blaa... I have created accounts to lots of sites which in the end I didn't use much and left, and later have forgotten I've already signed into them. Like a couple of weeks ago I got an email from adobe.com that my account there is expiring due to lack of use... no idea when and why I have created an account there.

2. Someone created an account with your email address, no idea why though. Also, considering you know your password to GOG.com suggests that you created it (apparently using the same password as for your email? Never a good idea.). Or then some hacker knew your email account password, and decided to use the same for the GOG.com account.

Maybe some other possibilities too, but those occurred to me first. Number 1 sounds more plausible. After all, time to time some people come here complaining some GOG game had "disappeared" from their account, but they had for some reason forgotten that they had also some secondary GOG account where they had bought that game, and simply forgot it exists or something.

Because no one under 18 has ever done drugs in the history of ever. :D

and I haven't been diagnosed with multiple personalities
Maybe it's about time? :D

Because GOG is awesomer!

Again, I tested with a password reset. Another possibility is that I got the account to play Treasure adventure Game, the only game I know that I've played which is also on my account. So I could rule out the fact that someone else made the account, not to mention creating a username that I would've likely used. And no, I didn't receive a welcome e-mail (or at least I don't remember getting one).

EDIT: ninjaed with the information that the username is one you'd have likely used. So my theory is wrong

Well,

Stupidly enought, on GOG you can create and account and it becomes active immediately without the necessity of having to activate it by email.

So here is my theory:

your email is mike124@gmail.com. Someone who has an email mike125@gmail.com wants to create an account, but accidentally mistypes his email and uses yours instead. As soon as he realizes his mistake, he just creates a new correct account with the proper email. Yours is still active.

Can you check from your old emails?

I didn't remember either getting such a welcome message but I assumed there has been such... so I actually just went to check what emails I have gotten on June 2011, and yep, there was a "Welcome to GOG" message still in my inbox from 28th of June 2011. I presume they still sent them on 2012 too.

DRM-Free Installers. :)
In conclusion, I guess I'll stay. Whether I had created this account in a drugged haze, or for the purpose of getting a game that I now have elsewhere, or if someone else created the account with the exact details I would've wanted on it, or simply forgot because of head trauma that nobody told me about, I now have GOG to turn to for sales for DRM-free games that aren't anywhere else, or if I need game troubleshooting.

This is one hell of a bizarre welcome that I'll never forget.

Well while you're here you might as well grab few more free games GOG has added since 2012:
Eschalon: Book I
Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves
Shadow Warrior Classic Complete
CAYNE

Full list. Do not that the list contains upcoming games that have no price yet, demos and free DLC.

You can also get Mount & Blade clicking the banner on front page. It's limited time offer that ends on sunday.

Maybe you haven't, but what about the other guy?
