Hi all,

I was able to run Homm 3 from GOG on Parsecgaming cloud which uses Windows Server 2016, but I actually want to run it on Windows Server 2016 in GCP, but I cannot so far.
I run out of ideas what setting of Windows prevents me to run it.

Anyone have and experience/secret knowledge how to configure a fresh Windows Server 2016 for GOG games?

Thank you!

I will never understand the desire to run games on non gaming machines.

Did you install the graphics user interface for server 2016? I have a machine running titan V's for Maya and RedShift3D and games running on it have no issues. Why do you want to use Google cloud platform? running the programs native gives you exact replicated performance to home with the added bonuses of more fps and less ram usage from background tasks.

you limited to hard drive? very curious about this, never heard of people using these 2 methods to game on a server OS.

You will be amazed, server 2016 is pretty much windows 10 without all the crap running in the background. so you save more allocated ram and increased speeds and fps most of the time. I get 10 to sometimes 20 fps boosts in some games on server. You got to give it a shot one day, it's great.

I know. I got my MS certs originally on server 2003 and ISA 2004. Good OS, but some of that "crap" running in the background is useful for silliness like running games.

2003, ah the good times. I miss that one so much. Mind you setting up server os is a pain but worth it in the long run, it teaches ya some fun things.

Interesting, I haven't heard of Pasec before. Have you run up other games in Google? What kind of performance do you see, and what are the costs (if you don't mind me asking)?
I feel you'd have better luck running games on a Fedora Apache server.
hmm, I'm not able to post my answer to here. What's wrong with it?

It's a geek thing.

I love compiling stuff across our FreeBSD server racks. Have CPU cycles to spare so.....

If you;re trying to link, break it. You can't post them until you have a rep of 7.

Sure I'm using the one with so called "Desktop Experience". Well, I'm not a heavy gamer and I don't have windows machine with me usually, so I wanted to find a way to play old Windows games sometimes from Chromebook/android. I don't play games where fps matters, so having RDP connection is totally fine for me.

GCP offers $300 credit for a year as a trial, so one VM running rarely will consume it very slowly, so I expected to have a remote windows for playing for free. Why not, right? Parsec has attracted me just because they have configured for gaming vm's, but actually they supposed to be accessed via their fancy native clients, which make sense, because it's main feature is providing you with as much fps as possible with your connection.
So I turned off both the Enhanced Security Configuration and Firewall, but still got GOG Galaxy program fail with "connection to Connection Service is lost" and "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly" for Homm3 itself. Event Viewer does not tell me much about the causes.

Parsec's main feature is providing you with as much fps as possible with your connection, but you have to use their native clients for it.
Actually I just started the research, so I have nothing to say about the performance so far, but they seem to just use AWS vms.
Pricing is like started from $0.40 per hour + $5/mo for 50GB

I kind of get that too, but at the same time... eeh?

I've rigged up nearly impossible feats on my Raspberry Pi just because I could... I just don't anymore. I have less time for that and use my skills for fixing broken things more instead of implementing half working solutions just to say they ACTUALLY worked.
