I use GOG Galaxy and I quite like it.

That doesn't make you unworthy. Piracy for theft reasons would make you unworthy.

True, true. I had a piracy phase way back when, since I was too young to know better, didn't have a job and it was a common practice here in Portugal (I think it still is). I remember computers being pre-packed with cracked versions of games, one of my first machines came with Jazz Jackrabbit 2 already installed -- the full version, not the shareware one.

Still, I see so many people dissing Galaxy and pre-orders, that I feel kind of bad for liking the client or pre-ordering games, like I'm a part of something really bad in the video game industry, enabling studios to keep their "bad practice" of pre-orders and the "stealth DRM" that is GOG Galaxy, shaking the "last GOG principle".

I suspect rare is the person here who hasn't done that at least once. But at least we're now amending our ways. I can't give you any guff about pre-orders. I recently pre-ordered a new Thrustmaster HOTAS combo that isn't yet released, so I'm as "guilty" as anyone else. And the multiplayer DRM thing? That's a matter of opinion.

Is it not already enough that as a paying customer we are nothing but paying alpha/beta testers?
Going with pre-ordering nowadays sends IMHO a wrong message. Allowing companies to get a card-blanche for everything. PLUS (unlike kickstarter) you will NEVER really know if you will get what you pay for, right?

With a normal purchase, you can normally just go back to the place were you bought the game and cancel the purchase. (GOG-CDPR did the same here on GOG, not sure about other devs?)

I use Galaxy too, about 80% of the time. But if GOG ever makes Galaxy mandatory I'd switch back to steam. Because if I have to use a client, then I'd rather use one where there's a larger selection of games and they are kept more updated/patched.

I mostly use Galaxy as a downloader and as a central hub for my GOG notifications and chat/friend management (plus the games I own that require Galaxy for multiplayer -- which aren't a lot). *All* of my GOG games run just fine without Galaxy and that's the way I play them, even though I do like the keeping track of play time Galaxy offers. Another feature I once used is the rollback, which Steam doesn't have, that allowed me to go back to a previous working version of a game after a patch had broken it (Dropsy).

I also use Galaxy. At first I didn't but now I find it more convenient. I've also preordered two games in my life, PoE and The Witcher 3.
