groze: I use GOG Galaxy and I quite like it.
I pre-order games.
Goodaltgamer: first point, up to you ;)
Second one: Light up the fire, heat up the oil!!!!!!! ;)
Seriously? Pre-ordering?
Is it not already enough that as a paying customer we are nothing but paying alpha/beta testers?
Going with pre-ordering nowadays sends IMHO a wrong message. Allowing companies to get a card-blanche for everything. PLUS (unlike kickstarter) you will NEVER really know if you will get what you pay for, right?
With a normal purchase, you can normally just go back to the place were you bought the game and cancel the purchase. (GOG-CDPR did the same here on GOG, not sure about other devs?)
Just a wee bit to think about ;)
To be fair I only pre-order games from studios that I trust will deliver, hence why I was never disappointed in my pre-orders so far. What you say makes sense, though, but I will still pre-order games if I feel like it's worth my money.
GOG does allow you to cancel the pre-orders, by the way, and they gave me store credit after a game I pre-ordered wasn't quite what I expected (Cornerstone: A Song of Tyrim). I now have Owlboy pre-ordered and I absolutely trust the studio behind it, and I feel fine with my money helping them fine tune the game until release.
