So in my early years, I would generally get a game, and continue playing it until I finished it. My library was small, as it took forever to install some games from floppy disks, and hard drive space was an issue. As time went on, more life events required more time from me, so gaming has taken a backseat. Then I found Gog, and I went on a shopping spree. Since I've joined, I've amassed a small library here, and on other online services, and I finally finished Doom 3 after purchasing it about 5.5 years ago.

Well damn. I know I have a lot of games that I haven't even touched (but I like under $10 sales). I think I might be lucky if I even have completed 5% of my library!

So how much of your library of games have you completed?
I only really love three genres of games: FPS, RPG and stealth games. When I stick to those I have a pretty good completion percentage I think, especially RPGs. If you name a decent RPG from the last 20 or so years I've probably finished it, except for a handful of recent ones I haven't gotten around to yet like UnderRail and Pillars 2.

The problem comes around when sales and hype get me to buy games in other genres, that I don't really enjoy playing as much. I think a lot of people with backlog problems are buying anything cheap and good, even if it's not something they personally enjoy. I do this sometimes with console style action games, or point and click adventures which I have nostalgia for but rarely play. The more I stay focused on the genres I really enjoy, the less unfinished games I have,

The majority. My main library has 75 games, and I've completed most of them. "Hidden" section has 53 other games, many of them freebies. Might eventually get around to play some of those as well and transfer them to the main library once completed.
For the foreseeable future I won't be buying anything new on Gog either, have all the games that interest me and which run on my aged laptop.
I completed like 10 of my games on gog and 5 on steam, Spelunky is one i need to complete 2 times cuz friend got it for me on steam so now I have to get all the achievements.
This pops up from time to time.

On GOG, in the unbundled way it shows them in library, have 131 games. 31 tagged as "not interested" (30 freebies and one purchased in a bundle), 5 abandoned (4 freebies, 1 bundle purchase), 19 completed. Of the remaining 76, have 34 tagged as "uncertain" (31 freebies, 3 bundle purchases), which leaves 42, 31 of which I never started or installed.

After doing the math between the games I own on Steam and GOG, I've got about 12% done. All the ones on physical media, I actually beat. Maybe I'm just a digital game packrat.

Most of them. I only play one game at a time and I play it to the end. There are some very rare cases of games that I abandoned and there are some games that I didn't complete but I tried them, these are usually freebies that I just wanted to see what they were about or roguelikes (I have never managed to finish a single roguelike, yet I played a handful of them).

If I buy a lot of games on a sale, I will wait patiently to decrease my backlog and then I'll buy something new (freebies excluded, they are always welcome).

In Library: 153

Completed: 75

Played: 23: Mostly games that don't have an end or roguelikes. In this category there are also the few games that I abandoned but didn't make it to the credits. For example, I played like 75% of Anachronox but I really got bored and fed up with it and I reached a point that I didn't have any fun with it, so I stopped playing it. Or Another World, I tried hard to like it but it pissed me like few games managed to to it.

Freebies that may try them in the future: 5

Games that I won't or can't play: 19. These are mostly some old freebies that gog gifts when you make an account that I don't care about and a couple of games that were bugged or unplayabe by my standards.

Backlog: 21. Unfortunately some of these I can't play because my PC isn't strong enough. I never buy a game that I can't play but there are some free games that I grabbed for the future, like Shadow Warrior 2 and SOMA. I'd say that my PC can handle about 15 of them, and I will surely dedicate my time to them on the near future.

Aaand now I notice that there are a few things in my library that I have not categorized yet. Some things like Daggerfall and Arena that I probably won't play and a "Thank You Artbook" with Sherlock Holmes. Whatever.
Think i finished 54 games and have like 271 games all on GOG. Some are still not finished until i beat their add-ons.

I just play the games i have most fun with currently, but most are all kinda long games that i am playing now.
Really not caring if i have a backlog.
Sometimes i wish to try some game i never played before and install it and play it a little and then go back to those i still haven't finished and am still finding fun. Rarely does it happen that i beat a game right away only playing a new installed game and finishing it, like rune gold i did that.

Nice(if old) thread idea. :)

As for me/on GOG: I don't know off the top of my head, but I would assume close to 10%(including old finished games I played before gog was a thing and still want to re buy & have wishlisted).

On steam: Maybe around 1/4 to 1/3(I have many less games there atm).

On gamersgate: Maybe 1/5 of them.

On original PC discs: I cannot even estimate(I have many games in their boxes unopened and also in disc albums/etc around the house)

On(large size) console: Perhaps 33-40%

On handheld console(DS/PSP/etc): Around 55-60% or more(I play more of them as I like to lay in bed sometimes as it's easier).

Aside: Did you finish the expansion for Doom 3, and was it the BFG edition or classic?

Somewhat good rule, but I find that one can "burn out" if only playing one game, as if it's not very good it can lead to one playing more slowly than if they played a few games side by side at the same time.

IIRC, the last time I did the math my completion rate was around 17% of all the games I have on every platform (and that collection also include lots of games that I got in bundles and that I'm not interested in playing, letalone completing).

This year I completed slightly over 50 games (including 13 RPG modules, 2 streamed games and a couple of freeware titles, and most were of the short kind, some even <1h), while at the same time I acquired a much higher number of new games. So welcome to the club of game collectors and digital shopping addicts! ;)
90% what i have
23%, but i might forgot to mark some games as completed.

I do it the same way. With around 80 games in my library I'll get them done sooner or later.
