There's been some party-based WRPGs released in recent years, and I'm wondering if somebody could give me a decent comparison of them, what makes each one unique, and what each one is good/bad at.

Here's a list:
* Divinity: Original Sin (and its sequel)
* Pillars of Eternity (and its sequel)
* Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous
* Baldur's Gate 3
* Solasta: Crown of the Magister
* Low Magic Age

and other recent-ish party-based WRPGs that make sense to include in this comparison.
I haven't played all of them but I think it mostly comes down to the way the combat works. For example, Divinity: Original Sin has turn-based combat and even a person like myself who dislikes turn-based combat found a lot to enjoy in it. You can set up your party with different skill types and take advantage of the environment to help win the day.

Then games like the Pillars of Eternity games and Pathfinder: Kingmaker (haven't played WotR yet) have a more classic RTwP system a la the first two Baldur's Gate games or even Knights of the Old Republic or Dragon Age: Origins, but with a lot more features that make combat more enjoyable. This is particularly true in PoE2, where I can use a broad plethora of skills in my party setup that allows me to really manage the way we face the fights. While you're trying to learn the system, it's pretty hectic but once you understand the way the system works and once you get to understand your party members, it becomes second nature and you really are able to use tactics to properly set things up.

Overall, I'd say PoE and PoE2 have my favorite combat systems among any isometric, party-based RPGs. I'll never forget the time I accidentally ran into an enemy that was way more powerful than my party yet, because of wise management and tactics, I was able to take it down after a long, epic fight. You wouldn't expect some isometric RPG with RTwP combat would get your blood pumping but that fight taught me otherwise.

Both Pathfinder games allow changing between turn-based and RTwP, and at least Kingmaker defaults to turn-based. (Worth noting that I consider RTwP combat to be a dealbreaker unless it's not the only option.)

I've played through part of the random dungeon DLC for Kingmaker, and I've only been using turn-based mode, except when the game seems to have bugged out. (You can switch at any time, and switching to RPwP during combat leaves the game paused until you unpause it (or switch back).)

I know PoE2 has a turn-based option so you might be interested in that one. It's the better of the two anyways, IMO.

Actually, Kingmaker's TB mode was added many months after release; it's functional, but often I felt like it was clear several encounters weren't really designed with that system in mind.
On contrary, WotR had turn based mode right at launch, and it shows - in all honesty, I find it unplayable in real time now, turn based is the way to go for that one, especially later on when enemies bombard you with every kind of spell and you'd barely be able to understand what's happening if you were to see everything unfold at the same time.
