Wise words, but there is sometimes a slight problem, while the majority of *active* users know about its antics, getting called a racist / bigot out of nowhere for no reason whatsoever is not something most people feel comfortable with, especially when it's a huge fucki' lie. Particularly in public places (forums fall into that category).

Which makes this kind of troll (or whatever you wanna call such a mentally messed-up person) especially bad, the whole hypocrisy and false victim playing.

Which can be especially dangerous with a new community manager, in particular if not brought to his attention, or him just lacking the knowledge / experience on how to deal with these types.

Or look at it this way: You mention being christian somewhere, and some asshole hops in and calls you a religious zealot and worse because of itm just out of nowhere... now imagine the same person doing it constantly. That's what Dtgreene is to most people active on the forum.

I explicitely stated that moderators should intervene at straightforward, direct racist statements, and that such statements would emerge only if a discussion digs beyond pseudo-rational forms of xenophobia. Plus, I didn't equate intervention with bans.

I have to disagree about Telika. So far, at least to me, it seems primarily like he's arguing that explicit statements implying harm/hatred against certain groups or individuals should call for a warning of some sort, if not a ban, which I agree with. The question is simply what sorts of statements would qualify, which is what I was arguing with him on.

Probably because Tauto and Kleetus harass just about everybody in just about every thread. To Habanerose's defense, they clearly fall under "trolls" as part of the "scammers; spammers and obvious trolls" first steps of post 29.

That's maybe because litterally everyone knows about them and their antics, to the point of just hitting the "-" and not even reading what they say. Still doesn't make it right, but is also the reason why I listed them as worst trolls, as they literally do nothing else but this harassing and insulting people whenever they can / feel like it.

And guess it might be much more of an (Western) European thing, but just getting *accused* a bigot / racist over here can have serious consequences on your social and professional life, especially when people start to believe such ugly lies. That's why people tend to be far more aggressive when falsely accused of such things, especially when the other side is doing it with a ulterior motives in mind.
