It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

How do I get rid off it?
I've read all my notifications. I've read all my replies. As far as I can tell, I've interacted with every part of the forums. I simply cannot get rid of this thing. Not only does it bother me whenever I log in, even if I go through every thread I've ever replied to in my lifetime it persists.

I know it's not a big deal, but I also know that the people who implemented it know I'm conditioned to react to things like a purple dot next to a menu option. That's why it's there.

Don't worry, it'll be back. That script used to work for me, but the dot evolved immunity to it. Now it comes back minutes later every time I try.

There is no escape from the dot. It will get you eventually.

I have that purple dot sitting in my menu bar for years now.
Trust me: you'll get used to it.
I don't even consciously notice it after all this time.
Stuff you can get conditioned to, you can also get unconditioned to, again.

I never had any issue seeing it, nor it bothered me, I just wanted to try if this would be a permanent solution. And yes, it's back!
You can use UBlock Origin to block the [Community] tab altogether by right-clicking on the header and clicking on block element.

Of course, the whole community tab goes away completely 1-2 s after loading a GOG webpage, but it's a small price to pay to purge yourself of the purple dot once and for all.

Add this to your My Filters in UBlock:

www.gog.com##.menu-link--pending-notifications.menu-uppercase.menu-link

Removes the tab and a bunch of forum icons, but well worth it IMO.

Easy fix using uBlock Origin:

Doesn't this fix cause the dot not to appear at all, even if there is a new notification?

Yes, this is how it works. IMHO it's better than permanent dot...

There is a third option, which is what I do: when the dot appears, I check what it notifies me of (e.g. read the reply post), then I turn it off manually (I use the "clear all" button under the bell). This way, the dot continues to function as a useful notification flag, albeit one that does not clear automatically, only manually.

The method I use is the customizable enhancements Barefoot Essentials brings to the forum: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/barefoot_essentials_2_gogcom_enhancement

Once you've installed Barefoot Essentials (see the opening post on how to do so) in the Barefoot Essentials menu (which gets put onder the About tab on the forum) in the Navigation Bar tab you can opt to 'Hide notification dot' for Activity Feed and Forum Replies.
Welcome to the club! You have been chosen for membership. Enrollment is optional, membership is permanent, backed by a founding team of poor javascript & html code.
I'll re share my joke, because I like my joke.

Actually my dot disappears most of the time. I had been trying to keep it, since without it I am bereft of access to my recent activity. But my habits mean fewer hours online and longer inbetween so perhaps I just drop out of some super-cache on the server or something in the mean times.

Edit:
The method I employ to keep the dot, I expect you might be interested in, is to keep a single unread item in the list.
