Straight from Apogee Entertainment, Vexlands is coming soon on GOG!

Vexlands is a 2D adventure exploration game. As the sole survivor in a cursed land, your task will be to explore and expand the world by unlocking mysterious cells. To do so, you'll gather and sell resources for coins – unlocking cells also purifies the land, revealing the story of the unknown calamity through hidden relics. As you venture further, you'll discover fantastic underworld dungeons and caverns rich with loot, but also fraught with danger from traps and creatures. Crafting the right gear will be crucial to surviving the depths.

Soon on GOG!
hexlands was already taken (yet another upcoming dorf-like) but they could've called it vorager or something (looks like forager except apogee is presumably not as shitty as that developer).
Walk down the memory lanes: Apogee was a strong contender of the past: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_Realms.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apogee_Entertainment bought the name in 2008 and I wish them all the best.
I have to admit, this game looks cute. Wishlisted.

No they can't. Just advising everyone not to look up the thing it sounds related to didn't seen sufficient for the context so I'll just say that it is very close to one of the top things to avoid unintentionally sounding like and you should consider yourself lucky to not have been exposed to it.

I'd say vexlands sounds more like a puzzle game to me, although looking it up it seems the word vex isn't really connected to puzzles, I guess I just somehow only hear it in that context.
What surprised me the most is that Apogee is still around. I thought the company closed a long time ago!

Regarding the game, I see a lot of potential for this to become a solid game. Wishlisted.

here is a shock twist for you - Apogee Entertainment was founded in 2008 :)

Terry Nagy, who is a friend of Scott Miller, bought the name and the logo (alos the name and logo for 3D Realms) when he founded this company. He also got the licenses for most of the games Apogee / 3D Relams had.

Oh, so it's another corporate necromancy. Kinda disappointing. I was hoping a medium sized company can survive over 3 decades of challenge

Yes, but this is not bad one. As said, Terry Nagy is friends with Scott Miller, and while Nagy is the founder and owner of the new Appogee, Miller is still involved as well. So it is not really just necromancy in name only (like Atari), but more of a contrinuation. The main difference now is that new Apogee is more of a publisher then a developer house.

Ah, so this is more like "Grandma getting a hip replacement surgery" kind of situation. I guess I can trust this developer since it still have the same spirit as the original.
Apogee, yet I'm there!
Apogee name aside, for I'm drawn to this game as graveyard Keeper did. I "normally" don't play these micro-pixel games, but seems I need to take it to my wishlist.

If anything, I'll give it to my wife as she's deep in Stardew Valley at the moment.

For some reason it also reminds me a bit of a modern, alternate version of SMB3...
